you know i totally complained about this at the time (I think hating it was the "in" thing to do) but i secretly loved it lol

I, too, found myself in a 'love' triangle at like... 13. But I didn't know it was a love triangle - I was in it for the friendships and suddenly, hentai. I don't miss it XD


I do miss:

Guilds - I was in a huuuge 'wolf' guild with a heavy focus on RP. Never RP'd myself (maybe once, it was a sad attempt), but reading the message board on Friday nights was awesome, my guildies were a creative bunch!
Plots - Boy, do I wish we still had something to do on the site. I remember eagerly anticipating the next event, knowing it will be just as fun and rewarding as the last. These days, anything that's rolled out is either broken, unreasonably labor-intensive, or both. Usually both.
People - I miss the old community in general. People weren't as cut-throat and competitive, at least not in my 'circles'. I've met so many amazing people, all of whom have since quit, and sometimes neo just feels really lonely!

Edit: OMG YES KEYQUEST. I've pulled all-nighters for that shit
Edit 2: Snow faerie quests. I don't know why, but I had a BLAST doing those. It's been years since I've even thought of the snow faerie

I totally loved doing snow faerie quests too, but I don't know why? I literally ALWAYS spent more than the reward was worth, but I really thought i was doing something lol

Oh man, having your profile decked out with gifs and music and blinding effects was so fun! I had totally forgotten the music player.

I also miss (though it was dumb) when the boards were age restricted into groups. My first 'cheat' was pretending I was over 18 (and then losing the lie birthday obviously lol)

I'll start,

1) This is oddly specific and weird, but I totally miss when people would post about being in cyber relationships with other players? I was young at the time and didn't really understand, but also I was so jealous of everyone who was involved.

Confession: I was involved in a Neopets love triangle when I was 14!

2) I miss the chat groups and lurking their boards. The one I remember most (hope I'm not aging myself here) The Preps. I remember they'd post really snooty board titles and everyone would get riled up. I thought it was ridiculous but also I felt like I was on the outside looking in & wanted something to do with all of it!

I vaguely remember having a neo bf lmfao thanks for unlocking that memory for me

I also remember putting songs on my shop page. Specifically Mariah Carey - We Belong Together

I know everyone is gonna say it, but fucking Keyquest man. KQ and Habitarium were two of my all time favorite things on the site and they just wiped them. KQ would actually make a great mobile game.

In general I miss the RP boards. Every few years I pop in there to look but it's not the same. I have several friends I met on the neopets RP boards that I am still friends with to this day. That board used to be so fast and you could almost always find an RP partner. I met my first girlfriend in a Sailor Moon RP when we were 11 and after along and tumultuous teenage relationship, we still keep in touch. It's good she wasn't actually a 40 year old dude but our parents had drilled internet safety into us and our moms talked to each other over the phone and all that stuff. But I have several other friends I met from RPing as well.

ETA: I also had a neopets boyfriend that rp'd DBZ with me but I never talked to him offsite.

Also agreed, the plots were such a huge thing. I really loved how it felt so... IDK, ubiquitous? Like EVERYONE was focused on the plot when one was running - it was just this HUGE thing that brought the entire community together. And god if I don't miss that sense of togetherness.

KeyQuest, without a doubt. Although it really wasn't just about specifics, because EVERYTHING was better back then. Everything is way more fun when its highly active. I don't do much differently today than I did back then, but all the things I do now were so much better with thousands more players.

Habitarium - I would come back from classes/outings/whatever and it warmed my heart seeing all those purple gems. I miss my Larnikins.

Keyquest - I will forever scream into the void about this.

Plot Comics (and plots in general) - The community would band together to solve some of the crazy steps involved and everybody was so...active. I wish they put some more thought into their content nowadays. But I guess you need content first.

UCs and other various site art - Sounds like I'm beating a dead Uni at this point but yeah. I don't think this really needs an explanation!

Frequent purges - GRAB YOUR RED BULL AND CHEETOS BOYS BECAUSE WE STAYIN' UP ALL NIGHT TO GRAB THAT 4L RW! Those boards were always exciting and keeping track of the purge bots would make one sweat bullets. I would set an alarm at 4am to check the boards to see where they were at.

It was such a treat playing Neopets back in the day and now it seems like a boring chore.
