I am, and always have been, a sucker for Yo-yo Ma and his soothing cello playing. He's the reason I picked up the cello in elementary school, played through middle into high school, and then designed a 3D printable cello in college for my honor's thesis. His way with this instrument is other-worldly to me.

    Thanks @Iscariot for such an
awesome drawing of one of my pets!

One of my favourite pieces to play on the piano.

On the flip side, I despise this one. The sole reason being that it was one of the pieces my piano teacher forced me to play as a child (I still hate most of the ones I learnt in piano lessons to this day). I had a terrible sense of rhythm in the past and this was especially difficult for me.

The Divine Comedy by Robert W Smith (1997), in direct reference to Dante's Divine Comedy (a narrative poem, circa 1320).

It was arranged only in the 90s, I hope it counts for the thread even if it is not from the Classical era itself It is a great arrangement, I performed it in band and it was one of my favorite pieces. The arrangement includes a lot of different instruments and methods that help bring forth a great amount of imagery as you are essentially lead through the four movements/stages as described in the original poem - Hell (Inferno), Purgatory, Ascension, and Heaven (Paradiso).

I have listened to this so many times, and I have yet to keep myself from crying.
Its just gets to me each and every time.

A comment once said that this will be the credits of when the world finally ends.
It sounds real dark and upsetting, but I actually agree.

Omg I came here to post this! I listen to it to fall asleep often. It's so beautiful and sad but also soothing. I love the idea that it's the credits to the end of the earth. That's very fitting I think. Did you know it was inspired by a poem?
CLAIR DE LUNE. By Paul Verlaine
Your soul is as a moonlit landscape fair,
Peopled with maskers delicate and dim,
That play on lutes and dance and have an air
Of being sad in their fantastic trim.

The while they celebrate in minor strain
    Triumphant love, effective enterprise,
They have an air of knowing all is vain,—
And through the quiet moonlight their songs rise,

The melancholy moonlight, sweet and lone,
That makes to dream the birds upon the tree,
And in their polished basins of white stone
The fountains tall to sob with ecstasy.

Honestly a perfect fit for the end of the world even in the poem that inspired it. I love it.

Thank you @Orbit for the Jackalope Ryu
