Gifs no longer working in signatures?

Hi!
So yesterday (or the day before?), my signature that included a gif was suddenly a mere ? in a blue box. Figured maybe the signature was deleted off whatever site I found it, so I redid my signature with a new gif. But that gif wasn't animated when I implemented it here, so then I tried another gif; that one also failed.
I see that others have working gifs, but I've seen 2 others with non-animated gifs. What's happening? :o

Hmm..
I'll try putting in a smaller gif to see what happens.

Update: You were right! I didn't even consider that the image could be too big (and yet this snail one is massive, but it works!) Thank you!

have you tried uploading the gif to another host? sometimes when I use Giphy gifs or when the link is too long it just breaks.
save the gif to your PC, make sure it works, then upload it to imgur.com
maybe that will fix the problem.

No that's actually a great idea! For the gif I truly want to use, I'll try a different host. It's straight from Tumblr, so that could be causing the issue.
