    audiobook recommendations

audible is informing me that a bunch of credits i thought never expired are going to expire, so i guess i got some books to buy

caveat: i usually only listen to audiobooks of books i've read before so i can tune in and out without stress, so there might be some perfectly good ones i pass over, but hopefully somebody else likes them and will appreciate the suggestion anyway

i am particularly fond of audiobooks with cool performances, i love full-cast ones, my personal highlights include Neil Gaiman's American Gods/Anansi Boys, Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, and Max Brooks's World War Z (except it's weird and broken up because the original one was woefully abridged)

that said feel free to suggest anything because i'm hoping this will be a benefit to everybody

(also i stg i saw a thread on this a few months ago, but i could only find the one about recording them, so that must be what i was thinking of, but if i'm just missing it, apologies for making a whole new thread)

I haven't checked it out myself, but since you mentioned liking Neil Gaiman, I have a friend who tells me the Sandman audiobook is AWESOME. Full cast, orchestra, etc. Which is also so weird to me because how do you do an audiobook of a comic? Also if you haven't read Sandman, it's really great peak weird Gaiman.

Not at all in the performance or fiction genre, but I have heard many many people enjoy Dan Rather's book, What Unites Us.

He reads it himself, and Dan has a really comforting voice, so you may find it to your liking for several reasons.

I read the start of it in high school and never finished (was just borrowing the book for a free period or somethign like that), but always meant to go back to it. I'm not sure how audiobook would work for it. Maybe you're meant to read along with the images? Audio descriptions? More a loose adaptation like a radio play? idk, but I'll keep it in mind (or at the very least the return to the novel).

Yeah, I wasn't really sure where to put nonfiction-y things in there because full-cast doesn't really matter as much there. Honestly that seems like a book I would typically pass over without really looking into it, but I do trust your judgement, so I might check it out anyway!

I mostly listen to meditation but recently I have enjoyed The Messengers by Lindsay Joelle.

I just got into audiobooks! I dont use Audible because I'm cheap .. I use an app called Libby and then I linked my library card to it! The only downside is that everyone else has the same idea so sometimes you have to wait a bit before you can borrow the copy.

I really enjoyed The Subtle Art of Note Giving a F***, and Everything is F**** by Mark Manson.

I really recommend Alfred Molina's reading of Treasure Island. He does such a great job with embodying characters you forget he's just one man doing all the lines. That being said the vocab is a bit old-timey so it + the accent can make it hard to follow, and it's not the most spectacular production-wise. Still recommend it though
