I don't think the moon affects it since I have the moon BG and have never used a moon emoji here but you may be onto something with the visitor message, because I've posted a couple of them and I think I got the BG around the same time. Oh, I recently posted/received visitor messages, so that could be it.
Another theory, could be interacting with a Ryu (not necessarily your own) that should be sleeping but the parent is on ck? Or would more people have it then, hmm.

Ive received and left a few messages over the last week or so, and still no moon scene. I wonder if the content of the messages have anything to do with it? Has to be a certain length or specific time of day maybe?
Ive left myself a comment and that didn't seem to do the trick either :')
