Anyone else concerned that 95% of neopets won't be converted in time for flash discontinuation?

I think the programmers are overworked converting the site, but they're very few. December will come, flash will die, what they have converted can be used and the rest will be converted over time.

Will we keep playing with a broken half page? Yup.

I'm assuming that the "95%" of the site you're referring to is the Flash content and not the pages themselves. Remember that Flash isn't going to self-destruct and cease to exist in December. Adobe is discontinuing support for it, and future versions of browsers will likely stop running the plugin. This doesn't mean that the Neopets site itself is going to stop working. Assuming that you continue to use a version of your favorite browser that supports the Flash plugin, then you've got nothing to worry about.

If you're concerned that your browser will automatically update and remove support for the Flash plugin, then I'd recommend taking a look at the (you need an account to see links) list of portable internet browsers. This site offers you the ability to run your favorite browsers without having to install them. This would allow you to keep your installed browser up to date while still playing Neopets in the last version of that browser which supported the Flash plugin.

TL;DR the Neopets site isn't going to melt down just because the Flash plugin is being dropped from browsers. We've covered this topic dozens of times since it was announced. Nothing to fear!

1. I would say there's practically zero chance that the site is converted to the degree that they have promised they intend to do so far.

2. I would say there is definitely a zero chance the site ever gets fully converted.

3. I would not be surprised if many features are broken or inaccessible, because they waited too long to get started on this, based on what we have seen so far. We have no reason to believe there is much more already done that they simply haven't rolled out for beta testing at this late stage.

All this said -

If Neopets does not disable their original site with its flash architecture, December 31, 2020 is not a firm dead date for flash in and of itself. Different browsers will have different support end dates.

- Microsoft browsers will uninstall flash extensions in a Windows update "(you need an account to see links)."

- Chromium-based browsers (Google Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi, Epic, Brave, Chromium, Blisk, Yandex) will be "marked as out of date and blocked from loading...(you need an account to see links)." This is targeted for Chrome (you need an account to see links).

- Firefox will completely remove flash support "(you need an account to see links)."

All of these activities have the caveat that they apply to the most recent or current versions of the browsers in question, and the ability to download new installations of Flash from Adobe.

If your computer has an older browser version that you prevent from updating... Well.

So the grim reaper is at the door, but the window is open. If Neopets chose (unwisely) to leave its site up with (unsupported) Flash content because their replacement site is not ready, users could be told to "download an older version of Chrome from X website," etc. This is an activity that is unsupported by Chrome's developers and the security community at large... but I've never noticed Neopets support to give a crap about giving bad advice, have you?

Won't surprise me if when enough of the site gets converted such as NC mall, dailies, maps and most popular games that they're just gonna fire Gutterfoot, van Doodle and whoever else works on conversion. Poor guys probably genuinely think they'll be allowed the time and money to improve the site. I highly doubt it...
