This song is about people in a relationship but I'm single since birth.
Anyway, I always cry when I hear this part:
"Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down"
I just want people to believe in me that's all.
That I can do this no matter what.
Hi I'm Molar nice to meet you! Please take care of me.
I'm holding my Mom's memory, a dragon tooth.
Thank you Stardust for my adorable look.

no songs bring me to tears
You - Petit Biscuit This one song gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it
It contains no lyrics but does an awesome job at storytelling. I'm just moved every time it makes an appearance on my playlist.

I’ll post two for now, the most recent & a perennial.
The recent one is My Only Child by The Highwomen. Natalie Henby wrote it for her daughter, and says in (you need an account to see links) “It's kind of funny, and it's kind of not, but I started this song because my kid kept asking me for a sister and a brother. I didn't want to explain to her about cobwebs and ovaries and things like that, so I was just like, ‘Well, you know, Mommy ... I don't know that that's really a possibility.’”
It shouldn’t make me cry, it has nothing to do with my life - I don’t have kids, I don’t know whether I want kids, if I do I don’t know whether I’ll have more than one, I’m young enough that I have a lot of years before that’s a concern... I think it’s the clear love, honesty, and emotion in it? The chorus listing little fragments of things she wants to hold onto just feels very raw, and the idea that this is her saying “I know you want that, and I want to give it to you but I can’t, but I love you so so much” just got me.
Slight tangent but if you like this kind of folk / old-style non-stadium country I recommend their whole album - other favourites are Crowded Table, Highwomen, Redesigning Women, and a highly rare gay country song, If She Ever Leaves Me, where Brandi Carlile addresses a theoretical man hitting on her wife saying “she’s with me, and even if she weren’t you’d have no chance bro”. Kind of like the exact opposite of Jolene?
Back on track with The Dark I Know Well from Spring Awakening. The characters in it are teenaged girls singing about being abused, and it’s both beautifully written and hard to listen to.
“You say all you want is just a kiss goodnight,
then you hold me and you whisper ‘child the Lord won’t mind
It’s just you and me, child you’re a beauty’”
This is another one that doesn’t really hit home for me personally or anything, but it’s just so tragic and so well-acted, and seeing the characters deal with their circumstances is really moving. The video I picked is from the Deaf West revival, which I think across the board heightens the show from the original.
Actually just remembered a last minute third addition that I just heard for the first time yesterday - I Know by Khushi. This one hits hard for me, it’s about loving someone in a dark place and wanting to support them and help them but not knowing how / not being able to.
“I can’t fix it all but I want you to know
that I know”
“I love you and I’m afraid of you too
Wanna be close but afraid of your mood.”
And yeah it’s just very real. Discovered it when Jameela Jamil played it before an episode of her podcast I Weigh, which I also highly recommend if you’re interested in hearing discussion of mental health.

Mad World is a fantastic choice!! I haven't seen Donnie Darko, I'm so bad with older films there are so many I haven't seen.
I discovered so many songs through Gossip Girl that are part of my all time faves and this is one of them. It makes me cry and I'm not sure why, due to some deep rooted feeling associated with this. I can't pinpoint it, all I remember is that Chuck finally showed some sort of vulnerability and was severely depressed and the pretty tune was so sad and fitting to the scene it just ruined me. Still does.
Two ravens in the old oak tree
And one for you and one for me
And bluebells in the late December
I see signs now all the time
The last time we slept together
There was something that was not there
You never wanted to alarm me
But I'm the one that's drowning now
I can sleep forever these days
'Cause in my dreams I see you again
But this time fleshed out fuller faced
In your confirmation dress
It was so like you to visit me
To let me know you were okay
It was so like you to visit me
You always worried about someone else
At your funeral I was so upset
So, so upset
In your life you were larger than this
Statue statuesque
I see signs now all the time
That you're not dead, you're sleeping
I believe in anything
That brings you back home to me
I see signs now all the time
That you're not dead, you're sleeping
I believe in anything
That brings you back home to me
I always thought Tears in Heaven from Eric Clapton was beautiful, but then I read the story behind it and now I instantly start to tear up when I hear it. Same about Wake Me Up When September Ends from Green Day. Losing someone so close is my biggest fear so they really tug on my heartstrings
Wholesome thread, but you guys have me bawlin' my eyes out right now
Off the top of my head, these two are my picks:
This one was the soundtrack to my life during the most trying times. I suppose the river was a symbol of my depression, and I sank to the very bottom. I rarely listen to it these days, but it still brings me to tears!
Lyrics:
and this one:
The video more so than the lyrics. Every time I hear this song, I just think of all the good-boy puppers I've had in my life. Fluffy doggos that kept me and my family safe and taught me what unconditional love is
brb, about to drown in an ocean of my tears XD

No Mitski songs yet??
Class of 2013 (Specifically this soft version really gets to me!)
I think any song that touches on the fear of getting old really hits me right now-- I'm a recently graduated college student who frequently gets the feeling of wasting away my life by not yet having a career. Just rings too close to home, and I'd never heard a song before that had that theme. It's so short, but so hard for me to listen to right now when I feel so inadequate about myself.
Last Words of a Shooting Star
This song glorifies death, so if that theme is specifically triggering to you, it's probably best not to listen to it! I listen to this song and I think of how many times I The notion of wanting a death where no one was at fault, clean and pretty, where even the narrator's room is clean so no one is bothered by even a mess left behind, or getting a view into her messy mental state-- all very relatable at the worst of times!
