Guilds in the past were amazing and was definitely something that every Neopian should be a part of at least once.
It was a great way to get new information as well as to know more people who will HELP YOU ALONG THE WAY. This is the actual main point of a guild and I have to say I was happy to have been part of a nice community when I was younger.
However, coming back to 2020... guilds are, as what some people have mentioned, just a place where you be 'acting elite'. The interface for guilds are - similarly to the boards - old, inconvenient to use, and the community in itself isn't as great as what it used to be.
Particularly because much information can be found on websites like JellyNeo or even communities such as ck, facebook, discord etc are becoming places with a faster pace of information and interaction.
For now, the only guild worth joining is the TOOSG (The Official Obelisk Skirmish Guild) where you can get information about the faction that they're fighting for the week for the boons. As long as you do your battles and submit your screenshot everytime, you'll be fine whether you interact with them on the guild boards or not.

I'm an extremely picky guild person but always go for the same type of guild. It's kinda hard to find but every now and then I can find an active and open one and get in there. The one I'm currently in I've been in for 2 years now. Active, semi-literate, friendly, with a focus on account improvement, and not a lot of hard rules.
^^ Thanks to Menine for the icon & Gremlin for this userbar!

In my humble opinion: guilds are good if you like to be a part of a community overall. But there are pointless guilds, though. I've come across a few ones.
Personally, the only thing I ever used guilds for was to search through their members and find inactive to go after. No shame in my game lol
What's my definition of success?
Creating something no one else can
Being brave enough to dream big
Grindin' when you're told to just quit
Giving more when you got nothin' left
I only got in guilds for the 1np auction that one member was doing.
They could completely overhaul the Guild system.
Have Guild wars - tie it in with the battledome pvp or pve.
Ranking systems ect

I am not particularly interested in guilds but I do know there are some arts-related guilds pretty amazing! Some guilds only invite art-savvy people joining and the events are quite meaningful and intensive.
I dont have any confidence in my arts and I am too social-averted to join guilds, but sometimes I do envy those who participating actively in guilds
However these years I personally think guilds are just fading when the whole site is just spiralling down the road

I love the idea of guilds, but in reality I have neither the time nor the will to commit to another social "platform" D:
I used to be a part of an ancient, enormous guild for a very, very long time. Like most other guilds out there, it just died. I stayed there for years after anyway, and kind of regret leaving (it was nice just having that memento on my lookup). I've accomplished pretty much everything I wanted, so the only things that would sway me to join one are just a chill group of people who kind of focus on general account improvement, like art or coding. Just can't seem to find one that is laid back enough for my playstyle hah!
honestly i think a lot of guilds like wrekt/nubs/quirky aesthetic have cliques already built up, and i dont really think id fit in. I just come here to chat honestly. Seems hard to talk to others on neo.
