    Fresh trailer drop - Dune

I have a pack of friends pretty hyped for this one. I haven't finished Dune (I'm a bad, bad sci-fi/fantasy reader, I just was late to the genre, don't judge me), but what I've read I've liked.

It's been adapted several times since its original publication (1965!), but this version is rather highly anticipated.

The director is Denis Villeneuve ("Arrival" -- which if you have not seen, please go watch it now -- and "Blade Runner 2049") and it stars a whole pile of famous people.

Naturally trailers by design are made to sell the movie, but the director's reputation + the epic visuals presented so far are very promising.

Just wondering if anyone else has been waiting for this one!

If it makes you feel any better, I consider myself at the very least a casual scifi fan, and I still haven't gotten around to Dune. I don't even own it to stick on my massive shelf of to-reads. BUT, I did just purchase it, so depending on how I prioritize it, maybe that will change soon (but I've recently read the first chapter of two books, and there's at least a hundred on my to-read shelf so... anything is possible).

I NEED Dune, Im still shocked over the cast and director of one of my favorite books. Its too perfect. The fact its being created as a clear passion project is even better. Get all the superhero stuff outta here already. Only good part of covid so far lmfao

It arrived. The bookstore I've been ordering from is going to think I am returning to be the book fiend of my youth but the reality is I've purchased five books in the past month or so and I've finished... zero of them. Kind of wish I'd sprung for the hardcover of Dune... this book is...hefty, proportionally speaking.

There was once a project for Dune movie, before David Lynch's version, by Alejandro Jodorowsky, and I've worked on the translation of the documentary "Jodorowsky's Dune", I was soooo sad the film wasn't realized, the idea was fascinating and the stars that were not cast but more like recruited to play in this version were mind-boggling, the likes of Salvador Dali (the painter), young Mick Jagger (from Rolling Stones), Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, Amanda Lear, music from Pink Floyd and Magma, art from H. R. Giger and Moebius...
I love the book(s) and actually have never seen David Lynch's film as people usually don't speak kindly about it. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the new one though. But if you haven't, try and read the books first. They are not so long and Dune is so much more than just an adventure story.

I always thought the name "Usul" was from the novel. The LD usul looks just like a Egyptian usul tbh

I was just wondering whether there was any connection between the mouse-like pet Neopians call the Usul and the sci-fi novel Dune. Muad'Dib (the desert mouse) is a character in the book who also goes by the name Usul. Thanks! ~athaclena
Actually we consider the Usul to be closer to a squirrel, but we digress. We don't think any of us remember where the Usul got its name from, though we have noticed the similarities and paid homage to a wonderful book by making the desert version of the Usul have blue eyes. 0 We couldn't help ourselves!
