    Home Renovations...

Most of us are adults. Some of us are home owners.

Perhaps this could be a cool place to show off some of the work you're doing?

I'm in the middle of doing our living room... for the 2nd time.
By no means am I a contractor or a professional. I'm 100% self taught. I'm a believer if I can do it, anyone can do it.

Here's some of the living room I managed to get done today. And a few from when I first started. A long way to go...

We put up the crown molding and switched out the carpet for wood flooring.

Painted that walls and now putting up the "panel" looking stuff x).

Then updated all the lights and added more.

Maybe if i get some time and if there is interest in this thread I'll post some of my past projects. Of course I would love for others to post theirs!! Even if it is just changing paint colors! Hanging new are. The sky is the limit.

I mentioned in our group chat that I would share photos of this, figured it belonged here rather than posting there.

I always wished that I could do my own home major renovations like this! Currently staying in a rented apartment and not being able to do such major revamps. All i have done was fixing up Ikea wardrobes and shelves, hah.

    The wood flooring looks good!

Having never installed a window where one wasn't prior this was a pain in the ass. Had to re wire some electrical. Install a header and frame some new... ill post a pick of the inside when I get closer to being done

The drywall missing from the top left corner was so we could fit the header in the wall and will be covered with trim.

Caulking has since dried clear. Might try to get a better picture tomorrow.

    nice topic right here :p

subscribed on day it started but haven't had time to post so far.

my SO and i bought a house about 4 years ago now i think.
We instantly knew we would have to but also wanted to renovate it.

initial plan was to first do the exterior (new brick walls, new steeper roof for a usable attic and so we could use roof tiles instead of the roofing it is now.
Sadly the local authorities didn't share our opinion and thus we did not get a permit for this

We then decided to focus on the interior and leave the major exterior works be for now and try again when we had the funds once more.
what we did is the following

    1. total stripping of the entire house
      • removal of all old plastering on ceilings and walls (still old 2 component one from somewhere in the 60s)
      • removal of all electricity
      • removal of all water pipes
      • removal of all floors, underfloors and floorplate
      • removal of all interior doors
      • removal of all windows and exterior doors
    2. tore down a wall to create an open kitchen to the dining area in the living room
    3. dug out dirt to make room for new floor plate and isolation
    4. placed new concrete floor plate in each room
    5. put in new electrical wiring
    6. put in new water pipes and plumbing
    7. put in screed to create a level surface above the water pipes and electrical wiring
    8. put in floor isolation
    9. put in floor-heating
    10. put in new windows and doors (these we didn't place ourselfs)
    11. plastered all the walls and ceilings (we outsourced this as well)
    12. put in screed as the underfloor
    13. put in a new tile floor
    14. put in a new bathroom
    15. put in a new kitchen

i'll have to fetch pics one day but currently don't have any available.

what we still have to do is:
    1. put in new interior doors
    2. place the toilet
    3. tile the toilet
    4. sand the plastered ceilings and walls (not looking forward to this one)
    5. paint all walls and ceilings

that's not even all i guess but those are the most important things we still need to do :p

In the 2 and a half years we've own our house we've replaced the roof. Tore down 3 walls to open a large living room. Framed in an entertainment center area. Installed a new living room window. Installed new wood flooring (replacing some carpet and old pine flooring) painted every wall in our house. Added crown molding to almost every room. Updated our guest bath room. Up dated a third of our master bath and installed new French doors to the back yard.

I still need to get around to adding some more photos too. Would love to see the work on your house. Seems like we are in similar situations x). @(you need an account to see links)

i'll see if i can add some during the weekend.

Difficult thing with our reno is/was we kept living in the house during the reno (perhaps not our best move but certainly the cheapest one) and did the reno in two parts (first central hallway, living room, kitchen, entrance hall at front and back door, bathroom (which turned into the washing/storage room) and one bedroom (which turned into bathroom; second part was 3 bedrooms; storage room and small hallway which we made into one bedroom, toilet).

Love the idea for this thread @(you need an account to see links). Your siding looks amazing. I've got a list of home improvements that's bigger than my actual house, but we just started working on some big things during quarantine. I snapped a quick pic while we were resealing our foundation/basement. Next step is moving inside to pressure wash and then seal the interior basement walls.

@(you need an account to see links) that sounds like a huge project! I've never lived in a house with a basement! I could only imagine how time consuming that is and how crucial it is.

We started off with a decent sized list when we bought our house... 3 years later we are maybe half way done. Time and money are huge factors. I keep saying if only we won the lottery... but we don't buy lottery tickets ahahaha.
