I think they haven't optimized this current beta build for iPads yet.
Since you were able to sign up for the beta as an iPad device user, I'd believe they'll release a later build that would support iPads.

Turns out I did get an invite, just was looking in the wrong email. It feels like all of the mobile games that I see ads for but I have no interest in playing. Outside of having Neopets in it, it doesn't feel very Neopets-y.
