    Tonight's events:

Started off going to a vigil held for Dion Johnson which went beautifully. They have moved to planning things off social media so the cops don't rally like they did tonight.

Then once that was over we all marched down to the phoenix police station to protest there peacefully.
All the cops lined up outside of the station with full gear on. They told us for hours that "this is a illegal gathering, leave or be arrested" but there were way too many of us. Sadly not enough to break in but enough to where they wouldn't make a move

Unfortunately kids started throwing water bottles at the cops frequently so they threw tear gar into the crowd and started shooting rubber bullets at us
We tried to hold the line but as people were effected by tear gas others started to flee.
On the way out people smashed into the court house and a few other buildings.

(you need an account to see links)

Overall it was a beautiful show of solidarity and will continue to grow as our voices go ignored.

The strength of the protesters is just incredible and I'm glad this is being documented for posterity.
Beautiful image. Just look back into history, riots do cause change.

The officer who killed George has been arrested (finally). Change will come.

The (you need an account to see links) by the Minneapolis police at one of the protests is also worth mentioning. The reporter was completely calm, respectful, identified as a member of the press and asking where the police would like him and the team to stand, but were arrested without explanation, live on the air.

Yep. It's happening all over, too, and not just to people of color. Police have fired (you need an account to see links)as well.

There's currently a protest outside police HQ in my town, so it looks like more of the same tonight.

    I'll be responding to this:

People in other countries, do you have similar issues with POC or minorities experiencing this sort of treatment? What can we, as a global society, do to make things better?
Small European country: No, not as systematically as in the US. I'm sure it happens here too, but the police are also held in much higher regard, because they tend to do their actual jobs and don't see it as an opportunity to hold power over other people.

My heart breaks again and again over seeing how POC (and other minorities) are treated in the US, and how their issues are belittled and swept under the rug. Sadly I don't think we can adress this as a global society, except maybe keeping the cameras directed at the actions and words of certain figures. Racial tension seems at an all time high, and Trump's presidency has poured oil into the silently smoldering fires of hatred and bigotry.

These are interesting and sad times, living through a pandemic and seeing the fall of a world power.

LAPD is now shooting at protesters and press alike with rubber bullets.

Meanwhile Minnesota State Patrol is firing tear gas at reporters and photographers at point blank range.

(you need an account to see links)

NYPD has driven an SUV into a crowd of people.

    =|

It's like the whole thing keeps spiraling and instead of de-escalating, the police and other forces are escalating the level of violence with no regard for who they're acting upon.

They literally are doing exactly what these protests are against.

Just came here to post about the criminal behavior of the NYPD this evening... seeing some very disturbing footage from Brooklyn and Midtown. Absolute Charlottesville flashbacks seeing *police* vehicles ram and chase pedestrians. Unreal.
But this is the same force that protected and wrung their hands over Eric Garner's murderer and propped up stop and frisk in communities of color, so I'm not surprised. The NYC PBA is crazy too and empowers this crazy bullshit.

There is currently a protest in the state capital (Albany) - guessing Cuomo is going to be peeved tomorrow while DeBlasio gives more lip service.

edit: Well, didn't take DeBlasio long - "If those protestors had just gotten out of the way we wouldn't be talking about this situation", "real protest does not look like this"
