    [GUIDE] Speed Training Your Neopet

    Hello again

I know many people enjoy training their pets and ultimately having the best BD pet - but at what cost of time and neopoints?

I'm here to give you a little background about speed training, talk about why it's good, and how you can achieve it.

    Background

When a pet hits level 250, they can no longer train at the (you need an account to see links) - so where do they go to continue training further? The answer lies in an inch away from the MITS, it's the SNTS ((you need an account to see links)). Over here, only pets with levels 250 and above can access this school, and they receive a different form of payment. As you know, the MITS take in tan/brownish codestones (10 types - bri, eo, har, lu, main, mau, orn, tai-kai, vo, zei) as payments and they range from 1 all the way to 8 codestones depending on your level. In the SNTS, they take in red codestones (6 types - cui, kew, mag, sho, vux, zed), ranging from 1 all the way to 6.

    Speed Training
Speed training is when you only train your level at the MITS, and leave your other stats (strength, defense, hp, movement) until you hit level 250 and have access to the SNTS. Why? Because it's more time- and cost-effective in the long run. Don't believe me? Here's a spreadsheet comparison that I've done.

PS: I have removed the Pirate Academy from this entire guide because though Pirate Academy might be cheaper than the MITS, the drawbacks of the Academy's time-efficiency is just ridiculous when compared to the cost-efficiency it provides. Thus, if you're looking at training up till the maximum BD stats (Level 375, Strength 750, Defense 750, HP xxx), then i'll assume that you have the money to spend, and would not wish to waste precious time (10 hours at level 40) training your pet at the Academy.

As you can see from the image above, the SNTS starts becoming cheaper on average compared to the MITS when you hit level 100. Comparatively, when you hit level 100, your courses are 8 hours each compared to 4 hours at the SNTS. So now this is where you should start to attempt speed training.

UPDATE: 2022 VERSION PRICES updated on 2nd Dec 2022

Previously, I said that when you hit level 100 (stats at 200), you should start training to level 250. However, with 2022 recent prices of red codestones going up and regular codestones staying the same (probably from less people fighting in the battledome), it seems that the prices have changed. You should now train up to level 150 (stats at 300) before speed training.

However, if time is of essence over money then continue with the previous route. It's a whole whopping 12 hour vs 4 hour.

    How To Speed Train?
It's simple. As I mentioned before, just train Level only till you hit level 250, and then once you have access to the SNTS, you can start training your strength, defense, movement (only if you're anal about it being even), and hp up to twice your level (thrice for your hp). So the moment you hit level 250, essentially you can train your strength, defense and movement to 500, and hp to 750 using only 1 red codestone per course, and at 4 hours. This would be so much easier to purchase on the shop wizard as well compared to buying 5 different codestones, taking 8 hours, and potentially costing more than the SNTS course.

If you end up getting the Mag or Sho Codestones, you realize you pay MUCH less compared to even the cheaper tiers of the tan codestones.

    Reason Speed Training Came Around
In the past, the only way to attain red codestones was to turn in 10 tan codestones into the (you need an account to see links) to get one random red codestone. This meant that it was extremely expensive in the past to train your pet if you were over level 250. However, with the introduction of red codestones into Keyquest (RIP T.T) and the new Battledome, red codestones have dropped drastically in price. Thus it is now more worth it to speed train once you pass level 100. For me, I'm grinding straight to level 250 right now even though my stats are still low because time is more important for me.

If you combine my Battledome Farming Guide (you need an account to see links) together with this, then you'll probably be swimming in red codestones by the time you hit level 250.

Assuming they were ~33k each (this is actually on the high side), they would also be the cheaper option at around 200 strength (33000/1.8 = 18.3k NP per +1 strength).
Thanks to bank_man, I've also added in this stat increaser: Bubbling Fungus. This item gives you -3 ~ +5 stats in Strength, therefore averaging out at 1.8. (Of course, you could do bad runs and end up in the negative, but that's a risk you'll take if so). Once you go above 200 strength, apparently it's cheaper to use Bubbling Fungus to gain strength rather than train your pet.

    But as I said,
If you end up getting the Mag or Sho Codestones, you realize you pay MUCH less compared to even the cheaper tiers of the tan codestones.
It'll cost you ~8900 per strength point. And also, if you have premium, you can take on the Giant Space Fungus on Hard and above mode because he'll drop Bubbling Fungus which you can then try your hand at ^^

I hope this information was helpful to you!

Do let me know if there's anything I missed out or is wrong.

    Have fun training!!
