I know - it's probably sacrilege to start a thread about fanfic in a "books/reading" section - but this is my favorite kind of reading! When canon doesn't give you what you want (or enough of it), fic to the rescue!
So who here loves fic? Do you have a favorite source or site you use? Fandoms or pairings you can't get enough of? Favorite tropes? Are you a canon or AU person? Specific AUs you always fall for? Are any of you writers yourselves?
I feel like I spend half my life on AO3. I first discovered fanfic on tumblr through the Hunger Games fandom, and after seeing everything linked to AO3 from there, I made the jump. If you love fan works and aren't on there, you haven't LIVED.
So as I said, I started with Hunger Games fic (Everlark - which, even though I struggle with on a canon level sometimes, the fic authors have made me enjoy it a fair bit more), which evolved into Divergent fic from there (Fourtris) and since I discovered The 100 and my favorite ship of all time (Bellarke), I've been a goner. My bookmarks are out of control, I follow so many authors it's sickening, and the best part of my day is getting an e-mail that someone posted an update. I even ventured into writing a few times - the first fic I ever wrote was on a snow day, my job closed for the day and some friends and I had been talking theories and I just started writing. Before I went to bed that day I had put the finishing touches on ~15,500 words of spec fic. I wish I could get that motivated to do other things LOL. My second is about 7k of porn, so that escalated quickly haha.
As far as favorites go - from a writing perspective I find it infinitely easier to write canon, but I love reading both canon and AUs. I love a good "enemies to friends to lovers" trope among many others. I'm not really one for the "coffee shop AU" that a lot of my friends fawn over. I need some angst before my happy ending. Some bickering for good measure
So what about you! Now that I've gushed and revealed my level of fangirl, I know I can't be the only one!
I haven't read a fanfic in a long time. I have no idea if I'd be into them now. What source/site do you recommend?
AO3 fooooor sure ((you need an account to see links)) - there are hundreds of thousands of fan works for any universe or pairing you can imagine. It's the absolute best!

lol yes I used to read HP fanfic all the time, the weirder the better - Drarry, anyone? There was one I adored about this girl meeting Charlie Weasley and they had a lurid affair, it was set during Christmastime. I think it was on HPFF but I can't find it anymore. (If someone knows the one I'm talking about, please link it!)
I remember a new 'chapter' came out right before school started one morning - I was in 5th grade, 2005 - so I printed out all 15 pages because I didn't know about copying and pasting into a Word doc and this was pre-smart phones, and read it during math.
Ah, memories.

I am 100% guilty of printing out my favorite fic back in the day too, lmao. If it was a popular one and the author still exists, maybe they cross posted to something like AO3 or FFNet! AO3 has a really robust search feature if you ever want to try to search for it, but there's a very good chance you'll click on something else and get sucked into it...I've done that many times :'D
Oh wow, archive of our own has a ton of content. It's overwhelming!
Man I used to love erotica fanfiction when I was younger.
Something about super horny virgins makes for fantastic literature.

You should see my AO3 bookmarks :') That shit is what I *live* for. I can actually attribute certain aspects of my current personal lifestyle to fanfic...
I'll just blame it on some of the writers in The 100 fandom being WAY too talented. Seriously, some of that stuff is GOOD. Like, binging 300k word epics in one sitting kind of good

I also haven't read a fanfic in a long, long time
I used to LOVE them when I was younger. Totally addicted! I don't even know which are the most famous fanfic platforms/websites nowadays... I'm lost xD
