What keeps you there, or what encouraged you to return?
I'm curious, for me I really fell in love with Neopets when I discovered role playing. Really, it was the only thing that kept me on there as a teen, but later on when we moved offsite (thanks to TNT's ridiculous filters) I found a love for account building, avatar collecting and moreso.... the neoboards. I loved the community and being active in it. I loved the neopian slang and phrases we adopted to communicate with one another - like we had our own culture.
I guess I returned because a friend mentioned it who I work with (she used to play too) and curious, I decided to come back. It's been months since then and I'm back to being a neoaddict.
Guess I'm trapped again.

Customization! I love playing online dress-up games, but there's an added satisfaction when I can actually obtain an item and put it on *my* pet.
Sure, I complain about the artwork sometimes, but even at that point, it's fun to try and make some of those wacky items work. And it's really gratifying when you can!
When I was a kid I liked to chat on the otherworlds and roleplay boards. After that I was really into avatars. Now the avatar collecting has stalled because all I have left are stamp, shockwave, and randos. I guess collecting neopoints is fun now because it's so easy. I really miss habitarium.

Customization, for sure. The art has gone up and down over the years but what can I say, I like dressing up my pets. (I'm an NC addict )
Avatar collecting is still fun for me, always thrilling to see the RE for some pixels I want to show off.
And lastly, my guild! Neo is absolutely boring without people to talk to so I'm glad I have a fairly active community to chat in (& ck counts, too).

I liked exploring. The world felt immersive and there was so much weird stuff to find or that people talked about. Some of it was intentionally scary too, like the cave beast, which was really cool.

Right now, it has to be working towards amazing stats (330+ avs, 500+ stamps, 500+ neodeck, rows and rows of trophies) and then staring at my userlookup
I roleplayed a lot as a kid, with lots of character art and stories, way back before customization. I was too little to really understand how to build my account, or how to make neopoints, so I focused a lot on building my pets personalities. Then I got into avatar collecting (and then cheating for the first time, to get said avatars )
Nowadays I just love customization. I still love building characters and drawing my pets, but since I'm an adult now there isn't as much time to sit down and enjoy worldbuilding in Neopets. Customization scratches that itch for me. I also just enjoy improving my account now that I know how to make NPs.

Customizing and account improvement! I never used to be big into NC but as soon as I came across dti, it made heaps of difference and I'm pretty satisfied with how they look now!
I'm still awful at working on my account but the slow progress is what makes it worth it. Having events/dailies to look forward to everyday really helps with things c:
