Not that you have to think about this right now, but the kitten I rescued went into heat last week earlier than the vet expected and I REGRET ALL MY LIFE CHOICES. Please get your cats neutered and spayed ASAP because the cat screaming pretty much nonstop was not fun.

The vet estimated 12 weeks in mid-November, and told me to come back in March. She started screaming last week and I'm finally getting some sleep now. ;______; Yes, best get them done before the hormones kick in!

They are beautiful. I have no experience with cats, unfortunately they give me allergy . However, I do have experience with birds, especially with large birds such as macaws. I have read that there are times when your cats do dangerous things like biting wires, in the birds, for example, so that they learn what is wrong, when they do something wrong, they take their box (I don't know what it is called in English), and they are left locked there a few minutes in the dark, so they associate that what they do it's wrong, and they try not to do it. Sadly there are people who choose violence with them to correct their actions, all they get is to become ungrateful, and fear the human being.
Leave the bird in the box in the dark for a few minutes can be applied to the cat; a few minutes, not having hours ... You will see how any of your cats think twice about doing it again.
I loved Bourbon's name, hahahahaha. In Spain it is normal for cats to call it Ron, as a name for drink

We have a brother and sister pair (OMG, all the LOVING CUDDLE CUTENESS!!!) and I tried spraying the scratching post with nip spray.
This just in: it didn't make her want to use it, but she sure sniffed it over real good! (LMAO)

I second, third, fourth and fifth the "check your plants" thing! I lost a cat because my dad brought home an easter lily and put it on the dining room table without thinking.
We have zero plants in our house now--probably for the best!
(We did have a hyacinth one year briefly, but I had a week worth of headaches and now I wonder if I'm allergic. )

I noticed no one answered your question about crating like you would a puppy.
Not necessarily, but if you find that you'd rather shut them up in a room for the night (not that you would in an apartment, but anyway), just ensure it's comfy and has food/water/potty before you do. My aunt and uncle kept their trio in the laundry room at night and they eventually got used to hearing, "Maggie, Molly, Henry, time for bed!" (I'm sure they still tried to escape from time to time, though. LOL)
I felt guilty about shutting kitties away (especially at kitten age), but when we first got our "kids", my brother would chat up a storm when I went to bed. A few weeks of sleeping in the laundry room cured him, though! I left him out one night just to see and was rewarded with peace. (He's currently watching me from the antique rocker.)
I hope you get some sibling cuteness, too!
Mint, congrats on the new kitten! It will certainly bring lots of love and joy to your life! Mine did!
But please, get it neutered/spayed. I suggest around 5-max 7 months old. The heats are complicated and they can scream a lot, for hours straight. Some specialists say it's good to spay them after the first heat cycle(if it's a female), because it's good for their own growth/health. But it's up to you!
On the kitten's first months, don't let it too free - don't let it leave your apartment or house, NEVER.
Provide interesting stuff for it inside, more toys, water fountains (cats LOVE them), play a lot with the kitten on it's first year of life. Very important.
Give it lots of attention but also learn to respect when they want to be alone. Their alone time is very important, also their sleeping time. It's said that waking up a cat several times when they're on deep sleep can be very bad for their health too. But some of them will sleep during all day and wake up at 3-4 am and bite you, meow loudly asking for attention... every single day (I've had this experience too....) You can try adjusting this sleeping schedule! I did it and really helped. Do it on these first months ^^
Ahh! Also, take care with a few litter box sand's that promise "absolute no odors/smell" and magic stuff like that. Some of them have elements on it that can be bad for you cat's skin (for example, silica).
I think these are a few more important tips I have to provide. Good luck and congrats again!! <3

Congrats! Cats are amazing pets! Grow some cat grass, it is easy to maintain and cats love it. <3
