okay so I'm a big enough nerd to collect some of my favorite game OSTs on vinyl.

it's really hard to narrow down favorites so gotta bucket these

favorite classic OSTs

Streets of Rage 2
there are sooo many good tracks on SoR 2. It's right up there in being one of my most played records when writing. I can listen to this track in particular for hours on loop.


Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
I hate the shit out of this impossible ass game but the music is so good that I keep going back to it. If Streets of Rage 2 is not my most listened to record, it's probably this one.


Sonic games
I used to go to the Sound Test page on the game menu screen and play all the time as a kid. There's a lot of tracks that I love across the entire Sonic franchise (shout outs to Marble Zone, Chemical Plant, Metropolis, and Lava Reef) but I have two favorites in particular.


I was seven when Sonic Triple Trouble came out and I still think the transition in Sunset Park Zone from Act 2 to the level's boss is one of the coolest game segues ever.


Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky
would never have guessed a Pokemon spin off would make me ugly cry lmao


favorite modern OSTs

Yakuza
A friend convinced me to play Yakuza 0 last year and holy shit I got hooked on the games fast. It was this part of Y0, the ridiculously silly weapons search process, that made me realize just how special this series is.


Streets of Rage 4
I'm so proud of SoR for coming out with a modern reboot that does such justice to the OG games. Too many amazing tracks to pick a favorite so I'm just linking the trailer, which has a great condensed version of one of the best tracks.


The World Ends With You
Between the music and the fun combat mechanics, I never get sick of TWEWY


Hollow Knight
there is no single track in a video game I've heard more times than the Nightmare King theme. Anyone who has played this game knows.

Marnie's theme - Pokemon Sword & Shield
Pokemon games have never had wildly standout tracks to me and Sword and Shield as a whole was kind of disappointing so Marnie's theme, easily my favorite battle theme in any Pokemon game, came out of nowhere at me.

In my limited gaming experience I would have to say the Halo soundtracks for sure and from my childhood any water level in Donkey Kong. The music was so soothing which helped to reduce my anxiety for playing any sort of water level. Lol strange anxiety I know!

Yes! Aquatic Ambience from the DK Country series is incredible! So relaxing and abyssial. David Wise is an amazing composer!

Animal Crossing... from high school through uni I had Go! KK Rider and KK Bossa as my urgent and regular phone alarms. I also had a Chrome extension that played the hourly music, though it doesn't seem to exist anymore. There is a new one out that I saw, but not sure if I can link it here. Definitely will give it a try.
