I'm a high school teacher, as well as my school's English Coordinator. I started my career not interested in middle management, but have seen too many incompetent 'leaders' to just sit idly by. I'm also doing my Master of Education part-time, due to graduate next year.
As for my feelings on it, it depends on so many things. What year levels...what classes...who's in the classes...what periods/duties I have that day. Overall, my job is fulfilling. I love being able to get those lightbulb moments in kids. I love pushing the smart ones to be more than they usually get away with; I was one of those kids in school, and loved my one teacher who didn't just accept my zero-effort As, but challenged me further. The biggest issues are bureaucracy (even in the last half dozen years, so much extra admin bullshit is expected) and ingratitude. A vast number of students today have a sense of entitlement, rather than appreciating the opportunities and support they're given. Fuck those kids. Kinda like when people on here get their knickers in a knot about a mod just doing their job to uphold the well-being of the community...
