Probably center-left, I agree with a lot with liberal points of view such as free market, and doing what you want as long as it doesn't affect 3rd parties, but also agree there's lots to be changed in the capitalist America we live in today. Both sides make good points, but the right just disgusts me with their pro-guns, anti-immigration and drug war policies.

I used to be incredibly far-left as a result of spending most of my high school years in online spaces that were, well, incredibly far-left. After I graduated, I disconnected a lot - I'm still leftist, but not nearly as zealous as I used to be about defending my position.

I am left but I think the whole political system is so short minded these days. You see politicians only thinking about how can I get more votes. When a politican says we must consume less because of the enviroment he/she gets less votes then when he says we must consume more for the jobs

i'm one of those filthy socialists that sits left of the left. i literally live on a commune. not one of those 'off the grid' cultish ones, though. we pay taxes, work normal jobs, and participate in society. none of us has never thrown fake blood at a politician or punched anyone for tiktok. we just happen to prefer pooling resources from several families. it lets us all live well above any one household's individual means, and frankly if the rest of the country could see past the idea of the 'nuclear family' and the over-consumption that comes with it i think everyone would be living happier, less stressful lives.

I am your complete political opposite but damn that's the kinda thing I can respect and admire.

Doing your own thing, not hurting anybody. Being the kinda change you want to make.

I like that. I can't even knock you for it.

appreciated! i know it makes me look like some 'weird hippie' to most people, but you've got it about right. all any of us here are out to do is live comfortably. it's a red state, so we're a bit of an oddity, but the neighbors came around once they realized we weren't out to start, i don't know, protesting outside the gun shop.

soapboxing: i'm of the mindset that living well according to your ideals is the best way to prove that a set of beliefs actually works. shouting other people down just makes them dig in harder because they feel attacked. \_(ツ)_/ lead by example.

I wish more people had this mindset. Whatever strong belief system it may be, whether it's something like religion or an ethics/lifestyle like veganism, it's the ones who just shove it down everyone's throat and never shut up about it that create negative generalisations for the rest of us. I know here in Aus, there is a huge pushback against vegans (even saying the word can trigger a barrage of hate) because they've gone about it in such an utterly obnoxious way. Is it representative of all vegans? Definitely not. Does that stop my impulse to cringe, roll my eyes and eat steak when I hear about them? Definitely not.

I think the issue I'd have with a commune lifestyle like yours would be that I'm very introverted and find most people to be intolerable. If you didn't have the right people around you, the dynamic wouldn't work.

it's about the same in the states with regard to veganism, and i know i'm guilty of the same impulses whenever someone gets started. that is EXACTLY the kind of thing that we should be trying to avoid when connecting with other people about politics.

living this way definitely does require both enough space for everyone and enough respect for one another to give them that space. if someone weren't capable of giving other people that much consideration, they wouldn't fit in very well here. i'm an extrovert, though, so it suits me more than fine regardless. having multiple incomes does mean that it's a large property with ample room for everyone to have their share, though. if i'm working at home (which i do, and quite a bit lately, hence the uptick in my posting activity here) i can go all day without seeing another person. it might seem like it defeats the point of living communally, but we didn't choose the lifestyle specifically to be in close-proximity to other people, just because to everyone here it makes sense economically and environmentally. we all have more - money, support - because we share. we all waste less because we only need one *object* instead of four. it's very... i'm hesitant to use the word 'tribal' because of the racial connotations associated with the word, and 75% of us are whiter than wonderbread, but that's sort of the idea.
