To be honest when I first saw the thumbnail for it, I thought "Great another francise ruined with live action" but after actually watching the trailer although quite 'different' I felt like it might be worth giving a chance. It doesnt look bad to me but it doesn't look like anything special either. I guess I'm indifferent.
I am intrigued by this so I will go see it. Being a child of the 90s though I truly have zero interest if this ends up being anything but heavy Gen 1 Pokemon. The new garbage they keep spewing out is just that. Give me a furry jigglypuff over a lanky robot-like repeat figure of these recent generations.
I think they've set themselves up for failure by choosing a franchise as big as this. There's no way everyone is going to be happy with how this turns out. It's such a huge part of everyone's childhood that messing with nostalgia isn't going to go well.
Also given the track record of live actions (FMA, Death Note, Ghost in the Shell come to mind), I can't see this one being successful.
Legendary Entertainment also isn't my favorite. If you look at their productions in recent years there have been some hits, but also some major flops (Great Wall was problematic when it came out for multiple reasons).
If this succeeds I'll be pleasantly surprised. But not holding my breath.
