I'm so sorry about your German shepherd. I have two older dogs, Kaloni and Marlow. Kaloni is a pit bull/beagle and Marlow is a beagle. They are both rescues. Marlow lived the first 7 years of his life in a cage in a laboratory being experimented upon, having God knows what put into his body. He's been with me for the next 7 years and he's a happy, old boy now.
I hope your next pet(s) live long (and prosper!). Same for Sam and Birdie!
Also my friend had a dog named Bird - named after Charlie Parker, the old jazz legend.
