My husband and our best friend went on a man-date to see this. I forbid them to annoy me by talking about it in my presence.

I dislike the superhero genre in general, a prejudice which was confirmed when they dragged me to Age of Ultron and they didn't even introduce that Vision guy. They just assumed you knew who this new dude was. Because when I'm like fighting along side someone, I don't bother exchanging names or anything.

Eh, didn't end up liking it that much. It may be because I fell out of following the Marvel universe a while back, but IDK, just didn't feel it, and didn't feel that invested in the story either. I mean, some parts are cool, but overall? IDK, it just felt eh.

OK really 1% spoilers review: TBH, unless you're caught up and invested in the superhero genre and specifically in the Marvelverse, like, super invested, I don't think you'll enjoy the movie. I haven't followed the Marvel series in a while, TBH after Avengers 1 and Thor 2 and Iron Man 2 I sorta fell out of it, I mean, I love superheroes, have always loved stories about them, since I was a little kid, but like, IDK, something about the grind of the movies of this past decade, and the now overused Batman grittiness added to every single story (yes it was good on the Dark Knight trilogy, because it was original to the genre, and befitting to the story, like, c'mon, it's Batman, he's all about that gritty on the comics!!), sort of made me feel burnt out for superheroes after like, two, three years, so I sort of ended up having a "couldn't care less" attitude after a while when a new superhero movie/tv show/animated series would come out, and that basically meant that, unless someone wanted me to watch with them, I wouldn't bother watching. But yet, I mean, I know what the stories are about, because people won't shut up about it, and spoilers are everywhere, and everyone around me is so involved, so I thought I had enough information coming into this movie, to at least be invested in it, and thus entertained, but I was wrong.

My main problems with the movie? Well... The movie already starts with things happening, there's barely any setting before the story happens, action scenes right off the bat, and dang they can get really long, things are explained as they happen, and it's honestly confusing to figure out logically the motivations of the characters, mainly our villain, big bad Thanos, like, I know there are flashback scenes and emotional and philosophical moments, but like, his motivations come out conflicting and forced at best, and comparing it to his emotional journey and stuff, it's... IDK, difficult to actually get engaged in the villain.

I mean, and it's difficult to put it into words, but like, it's hard for me to like a story whose villain has weak or contrived motivations, or has a weirdly inconsistent backstory, or is just not that well explained. I invest myself a lot on villains, it's my favorite part of a lot of movies, and I love all sorts of villains, they tend to be great over-exaggerations of tropes, symbolism for real life issues, or even just our inner demons, expressed as deliciously malign creatures, and their motivations many a time shed a different light or bring in an argument that really gets your mind going, and authors tend to really work well on those villains' motivations as to why they're evil, to be credible, so they tend to be really fleshed out, interesting characters. And I mean, I guess that's what they were trying to do, but failed, with Thanos. He doesn't seem to be caring enough, from what I know about him from previous movies and from what he shows this movie, to be a full fledged extremist like he makes himself sound like, nor is he cold and unfeeling enough like his plan makes him seem to be to escape the (somewhat forced) emotional drama, and thus he falls within a confusing middle ground that just leaves you questioning him in all sorts of ways. And with questioning comes the end of the suspense of disbelief of the story, and you're snapped out from your enjoyment of the movie, because the story just has that really glaring flaw.

Well, besides that it has other smaller logic flaws, one particularly that made me chuckle, regarding a scene that is meant to be serious too, but then we enter spoiler territory, so I won't share.

Summin up, due to all of those issues, the fact that I wasn't that interested in watching the movie anymore than other movies, and literally only watched it because of the hype, you can see why I didn't really like it. I mean, I don't dislike it, it's cool, I guess. But it's sorta... Eh.... You know?
