PSA: US residents, please read this.

If you haven't already heard about it, there is a new ancestry website for US residents that contains quite a bit of personal information. My husband looked himself up and it had his DOB, previous addresses, direct relatives (with links to their personal info) and potential contacts. This information could be used for untoward purposes, like identity theft, so it might be a good idea to have a look and decided whether or not you should opt out. (you need an account to see links). You can also opt out for your friends and family, if you wish to.

Just thought I'd pass this information along. Might sound paranoid, but I know I wouldn't want anyone being able to look up that sort of detailed shit about me and my loved ones. Stay safe, ck.

That's some weird shit, anyone can look up anything about anyone?
How's this not a privacy issue?
One or two years ago there was a Brazilian website where you could type in a person's full name and it would give you our equivalent of the security number, iirc the website owner got either sued or arrested.

    It's all public information.

That's true. This isn't the only website that you can get that type of information from.

No, but unless I'm mistaken you typically have to pay for it. By making it free, it's increasing access probability.
@(you need an account to see links), you should hit him up for guilt presents, for all the missed birthdays.

You are right. Even the government publishes your registered voting information AKA your home address. Most the time you just need to provide First & Last Name and birth date to get someone's home address from the government.

Some examples (find your state by googling "voter lookup STATE")
Ohio (you need an account to see links)
Florida (you need an account to see links)
New York (you need an account to see links)
Louisiana (you need an account to see links)
