Possible to retrieve texts from a number that isn't being used?

Okay, long story short. I tried to access my old neopets account which lead to me accessing an old email (a yahoo email). I don't know the pass and the old phone # its linked to isn't used anymore (and isn't being used by anyone else yet).

Any way I can get a message sent to some dummy sms? The only ones I can find have pre-set numbers

No, most likely not. I don't know for sure, but I think your telephone carrier (or the big ones in your country) have access to registering the old number to work again. @(you need an account to see links)

Oh I am having this problem with my husbands hotmail account...apparently the details we provided are not enough to prove its his and it keeps asking me to get a verification code sent to the registered number, except he hasn't had that phone number for 2 years :/

Been using that account for ages with no issues but apparently someone tried to access the account that they found suspicious...and because of that they blocked us. Very annoying
