They're also very oblivious/more lenient on cheating, which in my opinion has been good for me and probably lots of you, too.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've pushed a few limits on sides/shells just to see what I could get away with and nothing. Well, once I lost a bunch of shells, but that was my fault, but I still got away with that for over a month. Still, I backed off a bit, doing the same thing with new shells, and smooth sailing for 2~3 months now. It's like they don't care anymore, can't be bothered, or just have such a small team they can't keep track of it all anymore. Stuff that would have got you banned in a day/week in the old days.

I have no doubt that they're considerably understaffed.

Do we really want them mass marketing to mcdonalds again? Sure it was great at the time because we were all kids.. But I personally enjoy the current demographic, I wouldn't be crazy about a bunch of kids joining the site. I enjoy being able to talk to adults and have reasonable conversations. I know it hurts the economy being so small, but I find it more enjoyable to be able to talk to the same people all the time across many different boards.. I like to legitimately get high scores and trophies. IDK, I am not against the smaller player base.
