Many people have mentioned the joining a guild first before entering the boards, and thats definitely a good idea. And when you do decide to go, always have certain people follow you on the board, if instead of Bump bumping your board, if you are having a conversation which allows you to keep the board bumped and only reply to those that are inquiring.
Similarly external social media such as Clraik, Reddit, Discord is so much more lax and secure in order to talk and trade even. Mind you Clraik doesnt usually have NP/NC trading, but you can do that on Reddit.
Lastly, never feign stupidity, if you want to blend in with the jerks, you have to be like a jerk as well, never take the bait of trying to justify yourself to jealous people because a person whos had an account as you claim, has been pestered so many times that he/she would have grown tired of explaining themselves to everyone.
Similarly, you dont need to explain why you look like a new face, dont say stuff like oh what are the captchas or Im back from hiatus, because its kind of a big giveaway for people to go snooping.
And of course, time is your best friend, but ofc, when you're playing Neopets, you want to have fun and not have it look like a long con of any sorts so it is a tough deal.
You've got an amazing community here, and if you're looking for more friends, Id definitely like to have some new friends too.
Honestly best advice is be careful, I'd even say if you wanted boards to start on at the PC Start on Gifting Boards, they are desperate people, if you hand them a draik egg or a PB for a "dream" of theirs you'll instantly have a friendly bunch to get in with.
I mean I've been on the PC for ages, and I've got a pet that people instantly recognize, which can go either way; but since I've been playing for so long no one thinks much of it if htey've been on the PC long enough.
But whenever I end up returning from hiatus or when I get a new purchased UC from time to time, I make sure to ease into it with Gifting Boards after I secure the pet. They literally will defend you with their lives if you have once in the past dropped something nice to them. They are good people, but they are often a lot older, working people so they don't look too deeply into things.

In nc boards peoples don't care about. I already bought VWN higher tiers UCs and posted on NC to trade and nothing happened. But in PC, well, it doesn't worth the risk I guess...
Fitting in with the NC is fairly easy. Go on the 'PIF boards' and gift the fuck out of everyone. They start arselicking and will back you in any issues. have seen it so many times, users appearing out of nowhere and doing exactly this and all of a sudden they are 'popular'
