    Microsoft question

When you create an email and it wants to send you an sms for confirmation does that cost money?

No unless your mobile carrier charges you per text message.

If your phone company charges you per text message you'll be charged.
If they don't charge you per text message you won't be charged.

Receiving a text should always be free.

Sending a text is what might charge you.

It all depends on your phone carrier, so you should be asking them this question for a better answer.

Most plans now have unlimited texting so you will not be charged. But go over your own plan to see.

It's just like any other text. If you're texting people all day you probably won't notice another text from microsoft or another company to secure your account. If you have one of those pay as you go or preloaded phones, it would cost for that.

There are a number of apps out there that let you accomplish this for free though. One of them, that I have personally used, is called TextNow.

It works to text regular phones and such so I don't see why it wouldn't. I've never tried it for that though. Give it a try.

To clarify, this isn't a site. It's an app that you can put on your phone so you don't have to use your actual number
