@(you need an account to see links) Thanks for all the tips Andrew!
I'm thinking of what would be a good idea for next time, and I think I've got it narrowed down to either:
-bowling
-hiking a nature trail
I'm leaning toward the hiking, because we went there on a field trip in middle school and I think that can open a path to conversation. Anyone have thoughts to share?

You should also note that you the small talk shouldn't feel forced by either of you. Maybe starting I will feel that way but as you get into it it should come naturally and other topics brought up on their own. My point being it shouldn't feel scripted by any means. Makes it more personal.

Hiking is a good idea. Just make sure she is okay with physical work like that. Some hikes are beautiful around a lake on a path type deal and some can be climbing up and down rocky hills through unmaintained paths. Personally I am not a fitness/moving a lot type person so I would be pissed if a guy took me on a work out type hike instead of a nice stroll around a park of lake.
Bowling is a safe option for all around something to do.
Whatever you choose make sure you find out her favorite foods. For some women the way to the heart is food lol no joke. A good meal, does not need to be expensive by any means, can keep a woman in a happy mood for the rest of the date. When you find out what she likes do a Google search for best restaurants in your city.
