There's actual some scientific backing to the 12/21/2021 date. The 21st of December hails the start of the winter solstice.And very rarely does it happen but it did in the past, the polarity of the north and south reverses. I don't know what sort of ecological disaster this might cause but in all honesty.
Some religiously fanatical country with nukes is going to go trigger happy and start a nuke war.

But remember that 12/21/2012 doesn't mean it's the last day. Something might happen that day that might cause or lead to the eventual apocalypse.

Nothing much, the only thing that really happens is the polarity alignment of magnetic minerals in rocks changes towards the wandering pole.
