if new, every phone is speedy. mine is normal. my mom have a problematic S3 which is really slow the S3 is slow in comparisson to the Moto X. Moto X is really better (almost for me)

Ah, I see, although I've had my previous iphone for what, 4 years and it runs around the same speed as my current iphone 5 :p

S3 should be adequate, also be sure to run regular maintenance cleanups on your phone .. people with slow phones sometimes have apps that don't close properly, auto start, are residual or broken bogging it down

I would also say the S3, but if you want something newer that's also affordable, I'd recommend the S4 mini. It's still pretty large, I'd say iPhone size.

my bro has the s4 and loves it, its pretty big def easy to read on. and pretty fast.

Apple is the most durable, at least in my experience. You could wait it out for iPhone 6 regarding the screen issue though, it's rumored that they'll release a phone with a significantly larger screen size.

Samsung really has better features but break easier.
