Best programming language to start with?

I'm going to have a little extra time shortly due to how my classes are laid out.
I want to start messing around, trying to learn a programming language after spring break is over.
Is there one language that is better/more useful than the rest? Any suggestions?

NASM Assembler. My friend and I are writing a kernel. Maybe you could help us?

If not, python is really easy, but Java is better. Sean wrote a nice wrapper, but I can't seem to get it to work.

I prefer C#.NET at the moment. If you're looking to make applications with graphical user interfaces and you want a studio that lets you develop these easily, go with .NET. Plus there are lots of resources available for whatever it is you wanna make.

I have no idea about anything right now, so I wouldn't be much help haha

Well my end goal here isn't to make things like neo programs, although that could be a side benefit. What I ultimately want is something useful, that I can just add onto a resume or something like that. I'm looking over html/css again because I feel like that is something that is definitely useful. I took a lil bit of java a few years ago, so I was looking at that. I don't know much about .Net, but I've heard a lot about that and python. I think I might actually need to do a bit more research first to figure out exactly what the pros/cons and uses are of the different languages.

Well, I would use PHP then. Compliments Web Design rather well. Zach is good at it, and I am okay at it.

@(you need an account to see links) I also have been wanting to get my feet wet with a language. Where/how are you going to go about learning one. Via a website? Book?

I figure once I decide which one to jump into, the where/how would be easy. I haven't looked recently, but I know there are plenty of sources out there to learn from.
I'd probably start looking online first, but I'd buy a book if I needed to.

Well I'm looking around for an amazing online guide I found for C++ I believe (branched out to other types as well) that show step-by-step processes in videos and written out stuff. It's something that has to do with Boston College ((you need an account to see links)) Someone on CK posted about it in a recent-ish programming board but I cant find it either >.> Wish I could be of more help, but I'm just referencing you to how I got off to a start but then I got too lazy to continue

Yeah I'm not too worried about finding sources to learn from, just picking the right language.
There are many universities and other organizations out there who have tons and tons of resources!
