I think its wrong that he used a stun gun, and worse that his parents gave it to him. On the flipside, he did finally defend himself. And the bully did deserve it.
I think the last paragraph sums it up pretty well the school didn't do anything to help the kid out and instead asked him to change who he was by toning down his accessories so maybe kids wouldn't bully him as much when they should have actually done something. When I was in school as soon a crowd drew even if it was 10 kids there was always a teacher there investigating. I think they did the right thing expelling him cause he did have the weapon but they should have consequences for the bullies themselves as well.
I don't think he did anything wrong, he shot the stun gun in the air for self defense, not to use it on anybody else. He should get into some trouble for taking any type of gun to school but I don't think he should be expelled.

I have been kicked off schools myself in the past, for defending myself when getting bullied or threatened. Schools suck. They just don't give a shit about the children at all.
Sure bringing weapons into school is wrong, but honestly some schools just don't listen, and a person can only take so much. I happy i'm reading a story like this one compared to a story in which a bullied child takes his or her life.
I think they're just following their school's rules and regulation. By that, I mean not bringing any sort of weapons in school grounds... but yes, they should have done something to help this kid... the bullies should be expelled as well. If the kid has resorted to using a stun gun, that should have been some really nasty bullying done.
Kids can be SO MEAN though, and adolescents are way more prone to getting depressed over it than an adult. I was WAY more sensitive to people making fun of me even 5 years ago than now, now I don't care at all, but then.. It's different. Certain things feel like the end of the world, it's why kids commit suicide over things that are completely temporary.
I think they were absolutely right to expel him. Something as serious as bringing a weapon to school should have a zero tolerance policy. Put yourself in the shoes of the school officials - what if this was a real gun? What if he DID actually intend to kill people and this ended up as another Columbine? That's a very scary thought, especially if you are a parent of another child at the school. If they hadn't expelled him, I would bet a LOT of parents would protest to have him kicked out. He exhibited dangerous behavior, whether that behavior was defensive or retaliatory, it doesn't matter when it comes to the safety of the other children.
However, I do think that school officials should take this incident as an eye-opener about school bullying against gays and lesbians and take this opportunity to make changes that will protect its students that are being bullied.
