Im part of the team and no, this is nothing like IE, it uses gecko

I assume this is written in C++? From the looks of the (tiny) attachment, it seems to be a well-rounded project.

What are the security features?

A security feature of the browser includes an administrative password that can be used when editing settings, parental controls, etc. it also includes a site lock feature, so you can lock a website and when you try and navigate to the locked site, blue atom will prompt you for the administrative password. Another example is you can lock the entire browser, and without the correct password each time you try to open blue atom it will only display the password dialog box. It's a work in progress

You haven't discussed any programming related areas yet... Can you? What language was this written in?

It's written in VB code, working on some C++ possibly down the road.
