FFXI - Online?

So I recently bought this (mistake) and got a free 30 day trial. I cant figure out anything about the game (and im usually good at mmorpg). Has anyone played this and if so can you explain... well.. pretty much everything? I've looked at guides and stuff but most of them are for people who already know what they're doing. Im just starting out. Any info would be appreciated.. ive got like 25 days left til free play is over so I'd like to kind of figure it out before the freeplay is over and I just say "oh well there goes 20 bucks"

I remember trying it once. I was as confused as you are so I gave up :C

I have it for PC and the controls are lame. I see people running around sometimes so I know it isnt dead but the game is super old. They just keep releasing expansions. I was just in the mood for a new hack and slash mmo and figured Id give it a try.. dont think it was smart
