Hello again :D

I know many people enjoy training their pets and ultimately having the best BD pet - but at what cost of time and neopoints?

I'm here to give you a little background about speed training, talk about why it's good, and how you can achieve it.

Background

When a pet hits level 250, they can no longer train at the Mystery Island Training School ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) - so where do they go to continue training further? The answer lies in an inch away from the MITS, it's the SNTS (Secret Ninja Training School ([Only registered and activated users can see links])). Over here, only pets with levels 250 and above can access this school, and they receive a different form of payment. As you know, the MITS take in tan/brownish codestones (10 types - bri, eo, har, lu, main, mau, orn, tai-kai, vo, zei) as payments and they range from 1 all the way to 8 codestones depending on your level. In the SNTS, they take in red codestones (6 types - cui, kew, mag, sho, vux, zed), ranging from 1 all the way to 6.

Speed Training
Speed training is when you only train your level at the MITS, and leave your other stats (strength, defense, hp, movement) until you hit level 250 and have access to the SNTS. Why? Because it's more time- and cost-effective in the long run. Don't believe me? Here's a spreadsheet comparison that I've done.

PS: I have removed the Pirate Academy from this entire guide because though Pirate Academy might be cheaper than the MITS, the drawbacks of the Academy's time-efficiency is just ridiculous when compared to the cost-efficiency it provides. Thus, if you're looking at training up till the maximum BD stats (Level 375, Strength 750, Defense 750, HP xxx), then i'll assume that you have the money to spend, and would not wish to waste precious time (10 hours at level 40) training your pet at the Academy.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

As you can see from the image above, the SNTS starts becoming cheaper on average compared to the MITS when you hit level 100. Comparatively, when you hit level 100, your courses are 8 hours each compared to 4 hours at the SNTS. So now this is where you should start to attempt speed training.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

UPDATE: 2022 VERSION PRICES updated on 2nd Dec 2022

Previously, I said that when you hit level 100 (stats at 200), you should start training to level 250. However, with 2022 recent prices of red codestones going up and regular codestones staying the same (probably from less people fighting in the battledome), it seems that the prices have changed. You should now train up to level 150 (stats at 300) before speed training.

However, if time is of essence over money then continue with the previous route. It's a whole whopping 12 hour vs 4 hour.

How To Speed Train?
It's simple. As I mentioned before, just train Level only till you hit level 250, and then once you have access to the SNTS, you can start training your strength, defense, movement (only if you're anal about it being even), and hp up to twice your level (thrice for your hp). So the moment you hit level 250, essentially you can train your strength, defense and movement to 500, and hp to 750 using only 1 red codestone per course, and at 4 hours. This would be so much easier to purchase on the shop wizard as well compared to buying 5 different codestones, taking 8 hours, and potentially costing more than the SNTS course.

If you end up getting the Mag or Sho Codestones, you realize you pay MUCH less compared to even the cheaper tiers of the tan codestones.

Reason Speed Training Came Around
In the past, the only way to attain red codestones was to turn in 10 tan codestones into the Techo Mountain ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) to get one random red codestone. This meant that it was extremely expensive in the past to train your pet if you were over level 250. However, with the introduction of red codestones into Keyquest (RIP T.T) and the new Battledome, red codestones have dropped drastically in price. Thus it is now more worth it to speed train once you pass level 100. For me, I'm grinding straight to level 250 right now even though my stats are still low because time is more important for me.

If you combine my Battledome Farming Guide here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) together with this, then you'll probably be swimming in red codestones by the time you hit level 250.

If money isn't an issue, Bubbling Fungus will take you all the way to 750 strength for < 14 million NP. They average +1.8 strength each.

Assuming they were ~33k each (this is actually on the high side), they would also be the cheaper option at around 200 strength (33000/1.8 = 18.3k NP per +1 strength).

Thanks to bank_man, I've also added in this stat increaser: Bubbling Fungus. This item gives you -3 ~ +5 stats in Strength, therefore averaging out at 1.8. (Of course, you could do bad runs and end up in the negative, but that's a risk you'll take if so). Once you go above 200 strength, apparently it's cheaper to use Bubbling Fungus to gain strength rather than train your pet.

But as I said,

If you end up getting the Mag or Sho Codestones, you realize you pay MUCH less compared to even the cheaper tiers of the tan codestones.

It'll cost you ~8900 per strength point. And also, if you have premium, you can take on the Giant Space Fungus on Hard and above mode because he'll drop Bubbling Fungus which you can then try your hand at ^^

I hope this information was helpful to you!

Do let me know if there's anything I missed out or is wrong.

Have fun training!!

This is a great guide, I've always trained my pets using the lab ray and it's so slow and lop-sided!

If you're interested in spending a little bit on NC as well - the Faerie Quest Fortune Cookie and Training Fortune Cookie really helps a ton.
They're really cheap and last a few days so I find them really worth it.

That's super interesting regarding the space faerie avatar... I'll have to give it a shot! I've never heard that trick before!

I see they are 150 NC - at what point are they worth it? Is it wise to use them from the beginning or later when the cost starts adding up?

FQ are 100NC and last for 9 days - IMO they're always worth it, but training and battling is my favorite part of the site so *shrug*

If you get them during the Faerie Quest event in March they're half price, too ;) I bought enough to hold me over for the whole year.

Training cookies are worth it if you're online often enough to catch the shorter courses ending and restart them quickly - and if the extra NP you'll be putting out on more frequent courses isn't an issue

Unrelated to cookies - if you're interested in fast stats and cost isn't too much of a factor, Kitchen Quests are great as well - but only if you have 1 pet. Cookies target your active pet, but KQs can grant stats to any of your pets, so having multiple will give you less reliability of where the stats go.

Yep as per what Alias said, I have them running alongside training at the schools.

I think Training Cookies are great if you're planning to train them up really fast - but more toward the future when the timings get long. I might look to get one the moment my level hits 200+ when the waiting times are 24 hours per level. (Imagine needing ~2 months just to go from Level 201 to 250)

Great guide!
Just fyi, I've been training my pet since I've returned to the game. It was lvl 120 on 22/04, and just got 202 today.
Now I reached the hardest part of the 24h/training...

I've been using FQ and Training cookies, as well the training script to keep it training 24h straight...still, a pain in the a* to wait so long.

Hope to reach 250 by the end of june at least and them, start the real training!

I think I read somewhere that 750 strength will enable you to 1HKO?

I heard somewhere at exactly level 250 you can train in both training schools at the same time, but you can’t go above or below level 250 exactly for it to work. Can anyone confirm?

Yep, you should be able to. But at that point 8 codestone/24 hour courses just aren't really worth it when you're paying 1 red/4 hours (less training cookie reduction) and racking up the stats very quickly.

+ you wouldn't be able to quest cookie if you're planning to do this - one level gain quest and you're booped up past 250

Not sure if anyone else likes to keep track of their neopet level progress (I only focus on one) and how long it would take me to reach the goal stat I want. If you're like me, feel free to use this spreadsheet, based on Unown data and his table format. Cells highlighted in purple can be changed to update new values. The codestone prices were pulled off Jellyneo as of today so it should be good until the next couple of months!

Neopet - 1P Battledome Stat Calculator ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

Fixed the sharing access so now you don’t have to request it. Please make a copy of the sheet for yourself so I can keep the master sheet as a blank slate for everyone else :)

Sick sheet!!!!

I'm a sucker for a good looking spreadsheet and this is definite it xD

Edit: Lmao my stats show I need another 50m and half a year to max out. That's crazyyyyy. Hoping for more KQ and Faerie quests!

I have another spreadsheet that I use to keep track of my kitchen quests and it's definitely cheaper to start doing kitchen quest at level 80+ because my average cost per stat after doing 77 KQ to date is a little under 20,500 np on a random stat. I should probably do a new thread for kitchen quest profits to minimize training.

Edit: I'm still short 170.3mil and 579days to max out lol, but on the bright side, I am 14M + 4 months away from fighting snowager on easy!

does anyone have idea on agility? with the site remake will it ever come into play all of a sudden? which then leave us with a unbalanced pet and tons of agility points to grind

some items still require agility for certain effects but as for now there have been no updates on whether battledome will incorporate agility again

Some weapons use it, but they're mostly negligible in the meta. I've never trained agility and I stopped training defence after 200, but I only play 1p for the prizes, obelisk and potential plots. My advice is, if the budget is tight you can forego it as the weapons you'd need that use agility are the ones you're most likely not going to use, and even i they do update the battledome, there's no saying up to what extent they will and whether agility will ever be a thing.

Also I don't know if you use K-Quests as a training method daily, but if you do it's a very cheap and easy way to boost your defence and agility (depending on your level) anyway, I'm over 300 defence having stopped training it at 200, and around 170+ for agility.
