when I was 8, I used GBA to play Pokmon Gold. However, at that time, it didn't have any translation and I couldn't even go through the first GYM :rolleyes:

Red. I was apparently 12 when it came out, though it feels like I was a lot younger.
I remember getting Nintendo VHS tapes in the mail advertising upcoming releases, including one for the Pokemon games and anime. Was pretty hyped for it.
Don't remember anything beyond that, though, besides using a Game Genie to catch Mew.

First one I played was Leaf Green on No$GBA when I was really young. I saw my older brother playing it on his PC and asked him to set it up for me lol

I think it was crystal or silver/gold, I then got my hands on Red & Blue.

Blue. I had a subscription to Nintendo Power at the time and the Pokemon insert comic piqued my interest. Bought it at a department store the very next day.

Ruby on my GBA

Blue. I've been bullied throughout my time at the elementary school, so of course they bullied me because everyone else chose Red... The game was still great though, had a lot of fun. Last Pokmon game I had was Platinum. After that they became too far-fetched and modern.

Diamond. My cousin who is from Canada helped me to install it. Since I was really stupid as a kid, I have no idea how the trading system works. I gave my very high level Empoleon to my cousin but what he gave me back was his low level Empoleon. I kept asking him to give my Pokemon back but he ignored me and he flew back to Canada the next day. I dont know why I was so upset back then.

pearl! i was very, very young. maybe 6 or 7 when d&p came out. i was very much a tomboy growing up (i mean, still am, i guess?) but had mainly guy friends and they were all so excited about it being released soon. so i wanted to seem cool and bought it too. i genuinely loved it, tho.

I started with Yellow. I still miss not having a pokemon following me around that I can check up on in the new games. I feel like I was spoiled with that Pikachu.

I first played Emerald/FireRed! I remember that my Dad got one for me when I told him how badly I wanted to play it, ahaha. I was absolutely in LOVE with Mudkip and Marshtomp

Technically Pokemon Pinball hahaha. That was my first game for my Gameboy (though when I first gone mine it was already the GBC era, so technically first game for my Gameboy Color). First mainline game was Yellow :)

Pokemon Yellow, got it with Game Boy Color in 2000 or so. Still have the cartridge in a box in storage. Had to change the battery a number of times now. At some point I lost the screw... And then half of the damn cartridge (the front fell off). But it still works..! As long as you don't move or breathe or anything, lol. Usually when I try playing it now it's mainly to see if I can get Mew before my save corrupts. Eventually I'll figure something out for it.

I remember having a Japanese friend who had the Green version! Was so jealous but also deeply confused. I imagined all sorts of crazy unique Pokemon must be on there.

Off-topic on this but I eventually lost the Color (stolen :() and got an Advance. In 2004 I carved "2006 the world will end, Bible Code" after watching some dumb doomsday show on the History channel or something. The whole June 6th, 2006 thing, as if deities adhere specifically to the Gregorian calendar lmao. Ahh, childhood....

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about Pokemon Pinball. I still have it somewhere. I remember it's ridiculously hard to play... Didn't it have a special battery slot in the cartridge so it can 'rumble' like a real pinball game if you play it?

Yep!!! It was this big giant clunky game cartridge with a full on battery slot haha

Through other people, technicality it was Blue that was my first game. I didn't really get to own and play through a game for myself until Silver.

Probably for the best, Gen I mechanics are whack.

Pokmon Red, it wasn't what I was expecting because at that time graphics were far better than that but I became addicted fastly. Then I discovered Pokmon Green Leaf and I fell in love of the franchise.

My first pokemon was red version! I have alot of good memories trying to stay up late at night huddled next to my night light on my gameboy with no backlight trying to play without my parents knowing haha :) Gen 1 still has a special place in my heart. I go back and play it every few years.

It was Pokemon Gold in my old GBC. Fun fact is that the game was broken and saves would most of the times disappear, so I was forced to finish it all at once with the videogame on the charger, so it was also the first "speedrun" I've ever done :P

11-15-2019, 04:36 AM
My first was Pokemon Silver! I was about 5-6 when my mother let me pick it out at Walmart after a dentist appointment. I didn't even know how to read so it took me a good 4 years to beat the game (I was stuck at Morty's gym rip). I distinctly remember the day I finally passed it. My Typhlosion was extremely overpowered at that point lmao. I remember finding a shiny Girafarig in the grass near Lake of Rage. Had no idea what a shiny Pokemon was and thought it was a glitch until years later. Good stuff.

I've followed the mainline games since then and while ORAS and X&Y are my top 2 (I'm a sucker for graphics), Pokemon Silver will always have a special place in my heart. :)

Pokemon Yellow

My sister got it for Christmas when we were young, and I decided after watching her play it that I wanted it too haha. I ended up getting it as a birthday gift and loved it! I adored my little Pikachu and how it'd walk around with me. That game is what got me into Pokemon :)

Pokemon Red game boy color.

I asked a random girl in the school playground if I could watch her play. It looked so much fun so I asked my parents if I could get it.

That same girl ended up becoming my closest friend and actually the person that introduced me to neopets as well.

If we're talking about just the main series games, then I started with Ruby on the original GBA.

If we include spin-offs, then I started with Pokemon Colosseum. My enjoyment of it is what got me invested enough to try the main games too, after spending years just caring about the anime.

The first version I ever played was actually Pokemon Red on my gameboy pocket. For those of you who aren't aware the game boy pocket didn't have color. My starter was always bulbasaur, I used to get stuck in Mount Moon for hours.

My favorite was gen 3 ruby/sapphire/emerald. I love all the starters, especially Treeko. Emerald was super cool to me because of the duplication glitch at battle frontier. Caught a shiny ralts and was duplicating it like crazy and trading stuff here and there for it.

The first one I got to play on something that was not an emulator was Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs. That game was so fun I just wish Pokemon would do Ranger games again but since the Switch doesn't have a touch screen option, the whole Ranger series is gonna get trashed.

Ah the memories: I remember when Pokemon Emerald just came out. I cried and cried for my parents to buy me a GBA for Christmas. It didn't happen, ended up saving all my pocket money without buying lunch at school for ages and finally had enough to buy it myself (after my big brother contributed for my cause too). Good times! And now, many years later, I have such a soft spot for all the GBA and N64 games and I've been in the process of collecting whatever I can in whatever condition with original boxes/instructions if possible!

Ohhhh nostalgic feels. I was about six years old as I got Pokemon Red! I remember trading with my neighbours all day, I once promised a friend of my brother (he was 10 years older) that he'd get my charizard for his blastoise and I gave him a metapod instead. He was very angry but I was a cute lil child so nothing else came from it. XD

Pokmon Yellow. I was at a gym (little kid) while my parents worked out. I had a game boy and a Disney game. We couldnt really afford much but whatever I loved it. I got bored and started reaching into the seat I was on and inside the seat wedged between the cushion and seat back was a Pokmon yellow game! It already had Pokmon on it but no one was around and the gym let me keep it. It got me hooked.
