Just saw The Godfather for the first time

It was in theaters for the 40th anniversary. I must say, it was pretty good. I was enthralled and on the edge of my seat the whole time. There were some twists, some "YEAH SHOOT 'EM" moments, and also some sad moments. Awesome movie. If anyone hasn't seen it, do so.

I haven't watched the Godfather, though of course it's an epic title that everyone talks about. On a scale of 1-10, how epic would you consider it? How worth it is my time, to watch the whole thing, really?
