I'll leave a poll here to collect the results! I personally think Gen 2 with Gold/Silver/Crystal was top tier.

You can vote for more than one in the poll if you cant decide!

First and second gen are my faves. They have most of my favourite Pokmon in them. I'm not even sure of most of the future in the further gens lol

Not to mention staying up late nights with friends playing Pokemon Stadium 1&2 on N64 :o_o:

tmw you're the only one who votes for 3rd gen, LMAO.
Emerald was my first physical game so it kinda holds a special place for me.
Catching Rayquaza with a regular pokeball is something I'll never forget e_e

I started with the first generation (blue was the choosen one) but that was when I was too young, when I was not a kid anymore crystal was my boy, so for sure second generation was my favorite of all, ended playing pokemon after gen 4, skiped 5 and played Y, then I stoped playing Pokmon.

Same here. It took way too much time and I needed to stop... until I found Showdown and there was no work required. :P

I like Gen 1,2,3. I start playing with Gen 2 first (anime doesn't count right, since I knew about Gen 1 from anime lol), so it's definitely my favourite (it's actually the only gen where I love all the starter equally).

I haven't play Gen 6 and 7 yet, it just doesn't have much appeal to me.

No gen 5 love? I feel so lonely lol. I really loved the story line for that generation, especially at the time it just felt so different. So many great mons came from that gen too, and to this day I have an undying love for Krookodile and Haxorus. Yeah I know there are better dragon and ground types, cough cough, but I still really love them. They have such amazing designs.

Even though I've played since first gen, it was this gen that truly pushed me into competitive, breeding, shiny hunting and all that.

I don't really have a favorite but if I had to pick it would be generation 1 since that's the one I mainly grew up with.

My husband, on the other hand, always tells me that generation 5 is his favorite. I never played black/white so idk much about it.

Grew up with 1 and 2. 1 hold a place in my heart because I had to do my chores to earn enough to buy those games, it was magical. But once we had pokemon G/S and the corresponding G/S pokemon stadium on N64 it was something else. I do not think I will ever have as much joy in my life as I did when I was like 10 playing those games lol

voted for gen 1 to gen 3 because those were my favourites <3
fav game is definitely yellow, wish they would remake it ;-;
i think my favourite moment is when you try to water the sudowoodo in gen 2, and buying 99 ultra balls to catch suicune in crystal TwT

Generation 2, hands down, even though I'm not really keen on the pokes it introduced. Stuff like the radio, breeding, and being able to return to Kanto was freaking amazing. AND YOU GOT TO FIGHT RED! Man I loved that shit so much, still a personal gaming highlight.

Gen 1 would be second, for nostalgia and the fact that the majority of baddies after Team Rocket sucked.

Gen 5 was a really pleasant surprise; I liked the urban touch, the reset on pokemon and the bad guys had a sorta understandable motivation.

I voted for Sun/Moon but I really enjoy Gen II and also Gen I. I guess they got that nostalgia feel for me...

But I really enjoy what they did with the newest gen. Very nice IMO

Even with GEN1/2 being the games I probably spend most of the time on, I think I prefer playing GEN 3 and 4 the most.

Sinnoh was such a good map.

I'm a typical genwunner. I like some pokemon in the more recent generations but it seemed the games got worse and worse. Did not enjoy sun and moon at all.

Watching the tv series becomes too painful in the later seasons where it's like WHY.....WHY ASH ARE YOU SO STUPID YOU ARE BATTLE PYRAMID KING AND HAVE A BAZZILLION BADGES AMONGST OTHER TITLES!!

Why you go back to throwing your worm pokemon out in front of a bird pokemon again and act like you have no clue why it got bashed up. why.

Although I never get tired of team rocket (jesse and james) and their fails and their hatred of butch and cassidy and meowths never ending fantasy stories of why the boss needs the latest pokemon in said episode

imo the golden age of competitive battling came with Gen 4, there was so much more you could do in terms of strategy. Gen 5 further increased it, but just a little.

Mr. 49

I am not a competitive battler and I am old so, generations 1 and 2 are my top. And generation 7. I am fuzzy on everything in between and am learning them as I play PokeGO.

My parents didn't support much gaming so all I had was a Gameboy and GBA growing up. I played gen 3 and 4 on emulators, I think. Everything that was on DS, I did not touch at all.

I think GSC will always be my favorite Pokemon generation because it was so expansive and took long hours to complete.

RSE/ORAS was very fun too because I think it might've had the best overall pokemon in a game. DPP had the best story and villains. RBY is definitely great for the nostalgia.

I was introduced to the Pokemon games in the third generation, but with FireRed/LeafGreen as my first game. I wish they would remake them and adapt it in such a way that I could justify buying a Nintendo to play them.

III and IV were when my love for the series hit its peak. Red has a special place in my heart for being the first game which Pokdex I completed. II is a hazy memory due to me never getting to play a genuine copy. (Game piracy was — is? — rampant where I grew up.) I only got my first real taste of Johto through HG/SS.

I don’t remember much of V and VI.

I love gen 5 because pokemon black/white had such an amazing story and great characters, and it was really fun. Gen 6 unfortunately wasn't interesting enough for me to finish the whole game. I know a lot of people like it, but it just never clicked with me :/

Generation 5 is underrated, in my opinion :tiger:
Black and White 2 forever in my heart

DC Comics
05-16-2019, 03:58 PM
I guess TECHNICALLY my answer is Generation 4 because HGSS are my absolute favorite games in the entire series. BUT that's only because my TRUE favorite gen is Gen2 and these remakes were PHENOMENAL in taking everything that was great about those games, keeping it in tact, and adding features that absolutely enhanced it in every way. The actual Sinnoh gen 4 is probably towards the bottom of my tier.

Gen 4. Mainly because I'm naturally biased towards it since Pokmon Diamon was one of the first video games I played.

06-07-2019, 03:09 AM
This is really tough. Gen 4 possibly because of how huge the online Pokemon community was on places like Marriland and how everyone and their mom was into WiFi battling. Shoddybattle was a thing yeah, but it wasn't near ubiquitous the was Showdown is now. (I think a big part of that is because it was so much easier and accessable to gen Pokemon, but I digress.) I think it's mostly all the fun times and memories I associate with Gen 4 that make it my favorite.

I also have a special love for Gen 3 but the spam of the exact same few Pokemon on all the water routes kinda pisses me off. And Gen 5 was really fun with BW because it felt all brand new with only new Pokemon available in Black and White. UGALKSDHFA This is hard.

babypuff
09-16-2019, 07:03 AM
Hands down gen 3! The graphics were a huge step up at the time, from vibrant colors to hot springs and cable cars. I loved the previous gens, but this was huge to me. Not to mention the introduction of contests, bike mechanics, differing storylines, a rival who wasn't mean, and secret bases. While I enjoy the newer games (not so much dia/pearl or bw) I think it's going to be difficult for me to have a new favorite gen!

Daffodil
09-18-2019, 04:03 AM
I chose 3. Was sooo close to choosing 2 but I played so much more Emerald than I did Silver when I was younger and I just preferred the Pokemon from Emerald! I really really liked my Feralgatr enough to transfer it over from gen to gen.

Gen 2. I grew up with gen 1 and 2 and honestly gen 2 blew me away at the time. 2 regions to explore, 16 badges, 2 dexes.

Just an insanely complex game for its time and still the best imo.

My favorite pokemon generation is gen 2 without a doubt. I began play when gen 1 came out, and i do love gen 1, but gen 2 has a special place in my heart. I remember falling in love with the day/night cycle and the acorns that you gave to Kurt to be made into pokeballs. Now question, do some of you have a favorite generation in terms of the games but then have a different favorite generation in terms of the show?

Gen III hands down. Also their remakes were also the best so far in the series. Probably one of the best plots. And the last game that didn't suffer from long boring cut scenes.

oof, a hard decision between gen 3 and gen 4, but i went with gen 3! i still remember the first time going against the elite four and getting my ass handed to me by phoebe
i’ve replayed gen 3 so many times, everything is ingrained into my memory - and i definitely agree that ORAS was one of the best remakes they’ve done to date!

still not as bad as fighting cynthia tho, she came for my fuckin neck every single time!
gen 4 remake is gonna be WILD

I grew up with emerald being the first game I fully understood (Non-native english speaker here). So it might be a bit of nostalgia filter but torchic and friends always stayed in my heart.

My first ever game was Pokemon Red. I enjoyed that thoroughly, especially the Missingno. parts.

I found that Crystal was the most fun thereafter, because the legendary beasts were actually HARDER to catch (which made it more suited to legendary)

Does that make sense?

Crystal was quite fun, to be able to move across two regions.

My favorite overall main game is gen 6 though. I don't really have beef with any particular gen cept 8.

Gen 5, followed by Gen 2 (even though HG/SS is a Gen 4 game, I prefer it over the original G/S.)

Gen 5 got a lot of shit when it came out but I always loved it. It has the most badass music and I found the games really fun. Plus the 3rd games were actual sequels instead of just another slightly different version of the first two games.

Gen 3 might be my 3rd favorite. Have a lot of good memories playing S/R/E on emulators when I was a teen.

I don't remember if I liked Gen 4 or not.

Gen 1 is the one I grew up with, and I like it for nostalgia, but it's a basic game which is understandable as it is the first. Future games upped plots and villain motivations.

I played a ton of X/Y but wasn't a fan of the story or characters, I mostly bred a ton of perfect IV shinies and cloned them to release into Wonder Trades, haha. I did love Mega Evolution though, and I'm sad it got scrapped. OR/AS was good.

Sun and Moon I'm mixed on. Story and characters were great but the hand holding and constant cut scenes frustrated me sometimes. I appreciate them trying something different with totem battles instead of gyms, and a friendly rival (even if I wasn't a fan of it, kudos for trying it out)

Haven't tried Sword or Shield.

Gen 2 was my favorite, and GSC were the best games IMO. Gens 1-3 are my favorites, though I've played/collected through SwSh. I think SwSh designs are stunning. I thought a lot of designs around 5-7 were boring or just not a style I really liked.

Gen 2 for me! Even though I started off loving Gen 1 as a kid, Gen 2 was more memorable and I definitely spent way more time on that than I should've lol.
I miss my shiny Voltorb that I thought was a glitch.. I didn't know shinies existed at the time XD

Tough question. I am a bit conflicted between Gen 1 and Gen 2. Gen 1 has some more basic looking Pokemon, but absolute classics. Gen 2 is very Gen 1 looking but much better. Going to have to say Gen 2. Seeing HeartGold and SoulSilver was an absolute dream come true for me. It was a modernized remake of the originals.

Gen 5 is the greatest of all time, of course I know that it’s ultimately subjective. The aesthetics, the music, the characters, everything about it is iconic and it’s hard for me to believe black and white is over 10 years old now! I haven’t quite had as much fun with recent installments since B2W2 admittedly, but I do really like SwSh too for the same reasons — I think people are a bit too critical about Gen 8 and didn’t give it a chance.
