At once I can do up to 60.

Mike

^ at once? oh, and the correct way? xD

Tier539
12-22-2011, 04:50 PM
A year or so ago I was easily able to do 50-60 before I started to feel it, but now the max I can really do is 50 at a time.

Emiley

Yup, i'll go update my post now so no one will be confused.

Mike

But... That's like almost impossible, unless you're like super man, how long does it take you to do 500?

Wait... Are you sure it's push-ups?

jongeh

Probably 50, however the amount of press ups you can do does not correlate with your strength. :)

Ashleys165
12-22-2011, 09:30 PM
Depends if I push myself enough, due to my weight I can do an average of 75, but I think my most was around 92... BTW I am 72 pounds lol, but thanks to karate it is pretty much all muscle.

Cassie
12-23-2011, 01:06 AM

Maybe 5? xD I am really good in sports. But push-ups? Never. :D

Miguel

Used to be able to do 40 when I was in decent shape. Now, I don't work out much but I can still pump out 20

Half of the posts are lies

Not me!! I (as you can see in my post) weigh little, so anything that has to do with my upper body is pretty easy, lifting 72 pounds with that muscle is easy... the more you weigh the less work you can do against gravity.

Kristin

Like none. My arms are pathetic.
Well, and I can't bend my wrist backwards anymore since I broke it this year, so that makes it difficult. xD

Mike

Yup... That's true xD I can only do 31...
Most are trying to show off and feel like the strongest/most fit person here.

An average male can easily do 100 push ups spread through out sets of ten.

The hard part is doing them at once. For me about 30 push ups before i get lazy.

There are a few different pushups that put more strain on your tricep and what not. It depends how far apart you spread your hands. The further apart, the more it works your chest and shoulder. The closer it is, tricep.

My buddy could do ten three finger push ups in one shot, it's pretty crazy. He took classes at a Shaolin Monastery... They make him do brutal shit.

The sad part is he only goes for 2-3 months during summer break. Next thing I know, he starts learning how to use the nine-chain whip and swords.

Freaky.

gudboy
12-23-2011, 03:21 PM
i swear i did 103,237,383 push ups to impress a girls once, can't remember when it was, i think it was when i transformed into the hulk

Ah, cmon members,

Now on my 2nd enlistment, I push out for each PT Test betwen 93 - 102 area. Granted there is a 2-minute deadline, once I reach 65 to 70 without stopping, I'm doing 2-3 at a time... but I get there.
Keep in mind, these are infantryman push-ups, not S4 or operation push ups..... So, back and shoulders flat across, chest 2" from the ground, and back up until arms are locked out.

FM 21-20, Subsection: 14-11 & 14-12

-- thought I would add to make you girlies feel better, my DA Form 705 is always around 293 - 298 because I cannot do the damn sit-ups! My situps, around 73-75 in two minutes.... sadness.

5'9" 185 pounds, <--- guys around my size always struggle with sit ups. Fat man and skinny dudes whip right through them.. not sure why.

Inq

I do 30 a day, as part of my morning routine. I don't feel the need to test myself any further than that, but I'm guessing I could do twice that, if pushed.

MasterMind0wnz
12-24-2011, 02:00 PM
Well, when we were tested on them.. My best was 74 in two minutes. Now? 50 before I die.

about 30 something xD havent tried in a while :P

Sci_Girl

I tried, could not do 1. It hurt my stomach muscles so much. I clearly have no strength. There has not been a day in my life that I enjoyed working out or exercising so I simply stopped. It would be nice to one day be fit and have the nice young body, I have a very high metabolism so I never gain weight but I know being fit would still be a good thing. Maybe one day I will get over my absolute loathing of feeling exhausted during a workout. That is the main reason I do not do anything, I get no "high" during a run or workout and such like other people do. I just get the pain, exhaustion, feeling tired and a purely miserable feeling.

I need to build that up somehow :(

Martial arts are good, as well. Not only do you get a good cardiovascular workout, increased flexibility and muscle strength, you also a gain a practical skill (not to say that knowing how to pole dance isn't practical!).

I'd recommend Krav Maga, or Hapkido. At the moment, I do both twice a week. Even though I was already quite fit before starting, I feel so much healthier after about a month of doing those.

This might sound weird, but what got me into exercising was when I started taking pole dancing classes.

Actually it is not weird because I have considered poll dancing classes lol. Why? Because it keeps you moving without having the plain boring 2,3,4 rep of 10 push ups type routine. I cannot stand monotonous pull this cord, push that bar, pull this cord, pull that bar...over and over. Not fun. At least with poll dancing you can move and such but not go into dull routine monotone stuff. And on top of that at least it is a variety of people who will all be as inexperienced. Though I despise dancing, I avoid any and all situations that involve a dancing or moving a lot for that manner (hence I do not play sports) but the poll dancing is not full out dance all over the floor make a total idiot of yourself type stuff. It is controlled movements for the most part and not an outburst like regular dancing is.

I told my boyfriend that I may join a pole dancing class because it is not as involved as sports and I do not loath the idea like I do with gym work and such...his first reaction was not "oh that is a good idea because I know you will not go to a gym", no, it was "wicked so you are going to stip for me and be all flexible right?". That made me sad :( pole dancing is not automatically stripping, it is a fitness class for those who do not want to go to the gym.

Inq
12-24-2011, 07:04 PM
pole dancing is not automatically stripping, it is a fitness class for those who do not want to go to the gym.

I'm sorry to say, but as a guy, I can tell you that this is the first thing comes to mind when I think of pole dancing classes.

To a man, it's probably a bit like saying you want to be a mobster to try and broaden your social network, meet a few new people.

No, usually it's because you want to make money killing people.

Unfortunately, that is the just what pole dancing represents in society. Otherwise, it sounds like a completely valid, respectable fitness workout: to me, at least.

Sci_Girl
12-24-2011, 07:38 PM
I'm sorry to say, but as a guy, I can tell you that this is the first thing comes to mind when I think of pole dancing classes.

Oh I know it is a gut reaction of sorts, but it is just that I have brought it up a few times with him to honestly say it is something I would consider as an alternative to the stuff I hate. First reaction is fine as a joke and so on, it is the fact that I mention it over and over that it is not to take my clothes off and yet it is always a "well you need to strip no matter what now". He legitimately feels that if I enter a class like this, even though it specifically says "no stripping is involved", that I should and that I am supposed to start stripping away. It is to gain confidence and to help with fitness, not to strip lol end of story.

Anyway, I tried another push up and did two lol yay. Tried a sit up as well, did one! lol

Inq
12-24-2011, 07:52 PM
Yeah, I was only talking about the first reaction. If he keeps on about it, that's not quite right. I mentioned martial arts: I do that for fitness, and for self defence, not to go around beating people up. That's a similar misconception that people have, and it's not correct at all.

Good work! You'll get there, soon enough. If you find one difficult, take a break as soon as you do it, then come back a minute later. You're going to want to keep your repetitions in sets of three, no matter how many each one contains, so to start: one rep, break, one rep, break, one rep, and you're finished!

Sci_Girl
12-24-2011, 08:06 PM
See the videos are helpful as examples of how the pole dancing is, not hypersexual, not slutty, it is not there for movements and control without being extremely sexual. But in the first video I would do without the stripping of the clothes at the beginning, the dancing in underwear (not happening with me), oh and interpretive dance lol. But it does show the smooth movements and how it should be done.

Inq
12-24-2011, 08:13 PM
Hah, I have to agree with the above. The interpretative dance made me laugh: that's the kind of thing I used to do at primary school discos. Don't just hear the lyrics, be the lyrics: that used to be the philosophy.

As far as the stripping goes, at least it wasn't done in a completely provocative manner. It reminded me more of a boxer taking off their robe, before stepping into the ring.

I'm really impressed, though. Make a new thread! I'd like to learn more about this.

Used to do 100 before and after workout, i don't believe its healthy to do hundreds and hundreds everyday. It's alot better to vary your workout to diffrent muscle groups.
I guess i could do 200-250 in a row if i tried to max.

I failed after 2 today. Weak arms.

Sit ups though, are you supposed to be able to pull yourself all the way up? Or is it just enough to lift your shoulders and back up to a certain angle? Cause I can barely lift myself and I end up not lifting myself all the way and end up instead with a painful scrunch of my stomach. I am so incredibly out of shape tone wise, I am by no means overweight, but I have no motivation because I have hated working out since early grade school and my future career requires zero physical effort (if it did then that would be my motivation to work out).

0 - I wish I could do more, however do to a knee injury I am not able to keep as fit as I used to so now I am a fat blob. But this year I should be getting surgery, which will fix the knee problem, then I can slack off some of this fat.

I can do like 100 no 200 pushups, no like 12 maybe, I guess it really depends on how I'm feeling and why I'm doing push-ups in the first place, lets say theres a conveyor belt of nails running underneath me... then I can do about a million or at least 1 reaaaallllly long one

I'm so lame. I can only do a few (like 10). Its kinda not my fault though - I have a lot of things working against me
1) I'm a girl so I have lame upper body strength
2) I have REALLY long legs (35 inch inseam) and a wingspan that is longer than I am tall. So the physics of pushups really works against my body type

Somewhere between 10-15. I have rubber bands for arms :|

Used to be the story of my life bro.

For me the key to breaking out was to build a foundation and to build it on a habit. I started doing 30 pushups/night, and bumped up that number by 10 every week. At first it's so easy, you do a few quick sets of 10 and it might be tough but it only takes 3 minutes. In a few weeks you're doing 60, and it's a little tougher, and in a few months you're doing 150+ and it's an actual workout.

No, it's maybe not as efficient as going to the gym and lifting barbells, but it's effective at getting you into a routine with something really easy, then building painfully slowly (you want to add pushups faster when you first start because you could do more) but by the time it's hard you've made such a regular routine out of it that you don't quit. By the time you get to over 100/150 per night you'll be doing sets of 40+ and 50+ pushups.

Your arms won't be huge, but they will be bigger, and once you have even that small foundation it's so much easier to step into the gym and have a really productive workout. I'm still pretty lean but I'm a ton stronger than I used to be. It doesn't really get easy for someone with our body type but find something doable and just build on that. Finding people to do this with can really help the motivation too.

Used to be able to do 100+, now sitting right around 50—but I can finally bench body weight (and then some) so my strength has come a long way since I started working out in high school.

Just push yourself to do 20 a day.. anyone can do 20 if they're determined to do them, even if they are girl pushups (your pelvis stays on the ground)
anyways after doing 20 a day for a couple weeks it'll become pretty easy and then you can just start doing as many as possible trying to beat your own record! :D

If you do push ups on your knuckles and keep them by your sides (and keep your elbows in) you strengthen your upper arms and shoulders more. I can usually do about 15 - 20 regular, then few more on my knees. :/

Well I've been practicing Wing Chun for two years now, and have been quite fit beforehand as well. in the army the amount needed for highest score in pushups (only 15 points out of 100...) is 75, I did that constantly.. but I can do much more if prodded to :) In regular practices we used to do 120 before every class(along with 120 squats, 120 planks, 120 side planks each side, etc)... and once a year we do an entire session of 1000 push-ups. that's MAD. you honestly can't drive after that.
