Hello, first of all I am not the best at making guides. Any input is much appreciated.

As you can see I am not the best at making titles also.

OK, so I have been reading around the forums and have seen that people are having problems running programs on their Macs mostly as the programs here are designed to run on windows; at least for the most part. I use windows but I had to use a program that was built for Windows XP only, and also Linux (Ubuntu). This guide is to help those that are having problems running a program that is not built for your OS.

Also please do not rip off my guide and post it on other forums. Thanks.

-------------------
Tools you will need
-------------------

First off head over to [Only registered and activated users can see links]

Next you will need the disk of the OS you wish to use; Don't have one? Don't fret, we may not support Warez but google does. Just type in the OS you wish to use and download the CD.

Ok, if you have the original disk of the OS just pop it in and forget this step. If not I suggest you get a mounting software, as you will need it to run this.
You can head over to [Only registered and activated users can see links] Get the Lite version.

-------------------------------
Setting up your Virtual Machine
-------------------------------

*NOTE* You setup may be a little bit different depending on your OS/ the version you download, however this guide covers all aspects, your setup will just be in a different order that is all.

I use Windows 7 64 Bit so I would download the one outlined here. You should select your own OS.

1561

The download is very easy!

Once you have the VB downloaded you will want to decide which OS you wish to use and how much space you are going to use for it. Ok, now that you have decided simply click "New". If you are having trouble refer to the picture below.

1562

Click Next.

1563

Type in the name that you wish to remember it by, for example if you are using it to solely download programs to use for Neopets you may put Neopets as the name. Select the OS you wish to use, for example Windows. Then select the Version you wish to use, e.g. XP, 32 bit(is default and will not have 32 bit written beside it). Refer to the image below if you are having troubles.

1564

Now we have to select how much ram we wish to give to this new OS. Depending on what you are using it for it varies, however, usually you set it to 1/3 - 2/3's of your normal ram (I would suggest 2/3 - 3/4's if you are just using the VB for auto buying or whatever and do not plan on using your normal OS at the same time).

1565

I will not be explaining what use existing hard drive does in this so click on Create a New Hard Disk.

1566

Next it will bring up a window and ask you what type of Virtual Disk you would like to create. In this instance we will be using VDI.

1567

Next it will say would you like it Dynamic or Fixed. We are going to use Dynamic as Dynamic goes along with what ever you are doing, so say that the programs or whatever you are using is not taking up much ram it will free the rest up for your normal OS (XP doesn't use a lot of ram).

1568

Now we get to choose how much Space you wish to give this new OS. 10 GB is the usual, however, you may find that you need more/less so go ahead and choose what you need.

1569

Then hit create, create. It will say, Note: You can alter these and any settings for this virtual machine if you need to.

1570

We are almost done, just need to put the finishing touch on it. *NOTE* This is where you set the drive in which you mounted your OS disk, or if you have the original you use your regular CD drive.

1571

-------------------------
How-To Mount your CD Image
-------------------------

Open up Daemon tools lite and you should have a window that looks something like this. Select the + Sign. Refer to the picture below if you are having problems.

1572

Then you simply find the ISO, or IMG that you downloaded (unless they were an idiot when extracting the CD). Open it and click the |> Button. Refer to the picture below if you are having problems.

Enjoy. If you are having problems feel free to PM me and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability.

I did not see another section for guides or tutorials. A mod will move it maybe?

I dunno where I should have posted it to be honest and it is a guide that may allow some people to use programs for neopets so I decided to post it here. :P

something you left out is instructions on how to boot from cd drive in case your os is virused out.
when u turn ur computer on, press f8 or some shit. might be f12, like 50 times and you'll get the option to boot from cd. the rest should be self explanatory.

I don't think I fully understood what you are saying but it gives you the option at the start to boot from CD at the start which are drives like D:\ E:\ etc.

This is why I provided Daemon tools for you, so you do not have to waste a CD for burning a copy of windows. :P
or maybe I understanding you wrong? MrStoned420

I last changed my OS to kubuntu. I used Yumi Multiboot with a 16gb flash drive. With yumi multi-boot you can install or run Different OSs from your flashdrive.

To use it, First go to [Only registered and activated users can see links]

If you have an ISO of windows these are the steps to install it:
1) Download the program.
2) Run the program in administrator mod.
3) Agree to the TOS.
4) Select your flashdrive.
5) Scroll to the bottom and select the third option up. (Windows Vista/7/8 Installer)
6) Click Create and watch it go.
A quick youtube video: Not my work. [Only registered and activated users can see links]

Now restart or start the computer you are trying to use.
Then select windows loader and follow the directions.

There we go! :D I hope that helps those that can't get their hands on demon tools or magic iso/power iso.

There should be a windows installer without a flash drive also, I have ubuntu and windows 7 on this computer at the same time also. :P

Ubuntu systems has a .exe that installs the OS using the windows boot loader, zxzero. Arch does not though. I don't know enough dos coding to edit the boot loader of windows. I do however know enough grub code to do it. :D I'm trying to figure out now how to have a moveable OS that is completely unpacked. Grub 2 should be able to do it, but i'm not to sure how.
