Can anybody briefly tell me how manifest destiny effected the civil war? It's on my history final but we never learned it so I don't really understand it..

Manifest Destiny started a huge migration of people to the weast. As the new areas were being settled and eventually became part of the union, the north and the south fought over whether or not these new states would be slave states or free states. The status of most states were settled without any real trouble but other statesthey had a lot more trouble with. These problems sort of divided the nation further and further apart eventually leading to the start of the Civil War.

I'm a pretty big civil war buff, so if you need any more help, feel free to shoot me a PM.

I dont know how long this needs to be but i would just incorporate the 2 of them into one, something like

"Manifest destiny affected the civil war greatly in many ways. The first way is that manifest destiny itself got the settlers moving westward, they started taking over more land and turning them into states but the problem was the fight between slave and free states. With every state that was created due to manifest destiny there was a fight about weather it would be for the North and be a free state or be for the South and be a slave state. The easiest example of this is the Missouri Compromise of 1820, which drew a line on the north side of Mississippi and said everything to the west of it was a slave state and everything to the north would be a free state. The only problem is that this compromise didn't hold up completely after the Mexican War and in each state they fought over whether to be free or slave states. The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 started all new controversy when the idea of popular sovereignty came into play. This caused an outbreak by both sides where supporters were traveling to Kansas and getting into fights which lead to the new territory being known as Bleeding Kansas. Manifest Destiny played a major role in the civil war as it alone was the cause of the fighting over the new territories and helped to cause more friction between the North and the South that resulted in the Civil War."

Just did a little research to brush up and wrote this, if its just a test question im sure this is more then enough, if its an essay you need help with let me know
