New Lenny Conundrum:

THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - Ends: Goodness, not until next year! /gasp

Today is a lovely day and you decide to go visit the Hidden Tower. You have Neopoints to burn, but you have no special discounts, and will be paying standard price for any item. You want to purchase the most expensive item in the Hidden Tower, then the third most expensive item, and finally the second from last.

How many Neopoints will you spend in the Hidden Tower today?
I got 30110000, correct me if I'm wrong. Most expensive = 17m, 3rd most 13m, and 2nd to last 110k
EDIT: CURSES! Limit is 1 item a day.. So it would be 17000000... Too bad I sent answer already T.T

How many straight lines are there in the number of the position in the alphabet that is the sixth letter of the number spelled out by the answer to the following maths problem: 2+4*5?

Problem solution = 22= twenty two
6th letter= y
Y is the 25th letter in the alphabet
3 straight lines in 25.
Answer= 3

evil_me
01-04-2012, 09:33 PM
alternately I added 2+4 then * 5... end result i also got 3 :) school was a long time ago... did I actually get the math bit wrong? thirty instead of twenty two? or was this a tnt trick?

IndigoSunset
01-04-2012, 09:38 PM
Yeah the maths didn't actually matter which meant it was a bit odd having a question like they did. You apply the rule of BoDMAS(Brackets, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction) for the order of things without brackets, so you should have done 4*5 is 20, plus 2 is 22. But either way, twentytwo and thirtytwo both have 'y' as the 6th letter.

danialwynne
01-05-2012, 01:10 AM
I actually didn't even understand the question properly. I assumed they meant find the 6th letter for 2+4*5=22 so i thought it was Y in the twenty-two and Y has 3 straight lines so I put 3 and it turns out that was the correct answer lol

New LC

THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - Ends: Probably on Wednesday afternoon

A Neopian biologist was studying the footprints left by different Neopet species. There were so many different types of prints though! Some had no toe prints, like the Aisha and the Ixi, a surprising number had six, like the Elephante, and some had a whopping twelve toe prints, like the Bori! It was quite interesting to ponder. So she wondered...

If you added up the toes for each type of standard Neopet species, how many toes total would that be?

Please respond with ONLY the number and NO words (like "toes" for example) for your answer to qualify.

IndigoSunset
01-11-2012, 05:38 PM
No promises on this one since it's quite subjective as to what counts as a 'toe'.
But by my count, there are 238

evil_me
01-13-2012, 07:19 PM
agreed, the "toe" is subjective. I went to create a pet and counted.... 96... were we meant to count for each standard pet in each standard color? so many pets with a foot and no toes by my opinion.

IndigoSunset
01-13-2012, 07:31 PM
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
I used that page to count. The Koi, moehog, elephante, lenny. Those 4 were the biggest problem ones. 96 seems quite low though? Don't forget, it's the total number so if a pet has 4 feet and 3 on each then it's 12 for that pet rather than just 3.

Melvin the Meerca loved solving anagrams so much that he started bragging to everyone that he was better than Eliv Thade. One day, Melvin received a mysterious letter made up of anagrams. When he was done solving the letter, he didn't get answers but only more questions! The letter read as follows:

Ready for a challenge? Solve this puzzle. If you place the words below into pairs, each correct pair will be an anagram of an eight letter Neopian word. The first letter of all five words together should provide an anagram that spells out another Neopian word.
ROOT
CITY
SCAN
HERD
KITS
SOAK
CLIP
SNOW
MONK
HOOK

Oh no, poor Melvin! Maybe you can help him out? What is the final Neopian word?
Please answer with only the five letter word and no additional text!

KOOKITHS and CLOMPKIN are two of the words.

ROOT CITY SCAN HERD SOAK SNOW remaining.
Edit: OCTORNAS as well.
Leaves CITY HERD SOAK SNOW

Okay I got two possible answers.. ACKOS or KOSEC
Most likely ACKOS though since it seems to be a pattern of petpet names.

Ahh, Maraqua. Land of aquatic fun, fine food, fishing antics... but a really bad place for books. Like, really bad. The Lenny Library has unfortunately found a very rare copy of A Brief History of Neopian Turnips in an underwater abode, and needs to restore it. As you can see, many of the letters are smudged beyond recognition. The Neopian Center of Unimaginable Knowledge knows the answer though, but have decided to challenge the great minds of Neopia to see who is worthy to join their mighty ranks. So they have posed this question:

You should be able to complete the Neopian words below using all of the letters A to Z, each once only. Once completed, three leftover letters should remain.

...rl

.ac.ues

.om.tt

.u.lo.n

..ia

E.ri.

I don't think 2883601 is a possible answer.. There's not even that many 4 digit numbers so.. I'm pretty sure its 2401 though.
Say you just did 2 dice instead of 4:
11 12 13 14 15 16 19 21 22 23 24 25 26 29 31 32 33 34 35 36 39 41 42 43 44 45 46 49 51 52 53 54 55 56 59 61 62 63 64 65 66 69 91 92 93 94 95 96 99
That's 49 choices or 7^2.
God I swear the hardest part about the latest LC's is how easy they are.. So easy that people overthink it :\

im confuzzled. what do u mean indigo? xxxx?

If you're rolling 4 dice, with each having the maximum value of 6, then you need all numbers starting with 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 that are 4 digits long. However, it says "including those with the six turned upsidown" so you also need all numbers starting with 9 that are 4 digits.

bamag
02-08-2012, 08:34 PM
Alright here's how I solved. Total combinations = 7^4 = 2401. There's 7 different numbers so # of combinations with each number as 1st digit is 2401/7=343.
Sum of the 7 numbers 1+2+3+4+5+6+9=30.
343(1000*30+100*30+10*30+30)= 343*33330= 11432190

FINAL ANSWER: 11432190

Yeah I'm fairly certain.

More detail:
You can think of each number as 1000A+100B+10C+D.
For example 9123 = 9*1000+1*100+2*10+3
If we consider each of the possible digits, it would be (1+2+3+4+5+6+9)*1000+(1+2+3+4+5+6+9)*100+(1+2+3+4+ 5+6+9)*10+(1+2+3+4+5+6+9)=33330.
Since each digit appears in each spot 343 times, you multiple 33330 by 343.

---------- Post added at 08:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:17 PM ----------

Another solution in case people don't believe this is the answer:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
The problem described in that link is exactly the same as the one on the LC except for 1 very important difference: the LC one does not say that you cannot repeat digits.
Therefore you would do all the same steps except instead of doing 6*5*4, you would do 7*7*7=343.
343*30=10290
10290*1111= 11432190
Same answer as my previous solution.

neopia or neopians probably isn't in it unless the petpet ona is in the bottom half of the phrase from what I can tell. I'm going through a list of pets and other neo phrases to get ideas though. Right track.

Also based on what I can tell. There has to be at least 1 or more spots where there are two spaces or more. Otherwise the average word size would be 3 letters long and there would be 13 of them. Try having double blanks next to each other.

Uzarro is quite good at theiving and the various activities that go along with such a hobby. Sneaking? Yeah, awesome. Jumping through lasers? Pfft. Cracking safes? Piece of cake.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

One night she was so bored of the average heist that she decided to give herself a challenge. She was attempting to crack a safe in the basement of a wealthy shopkeeper - one who'd recently increased security measures by... well, a lot. After making it past all the other tricks and traps, she reached the safe.

The challenge? She hadn't done any research on this model. She wasn't sure if there were three numbers in the combination, or four. She also wasn't sure which direction to turn the dial first. The only thing she did know was that the dial had numbers from 0 to 75.

She briefly considered how long it would take to try all possible combinations, one by one, knowing that each sequence would take her 8 seconds on average. Did we mention she was good at maths? Because she is, and she chuckled at the answer before using her crazy skills to bust the safe open and hightail it out of there.

How many days would it have taken her to try every possible combination, rounding to the nearest day?

The professor, looking dapper.

On the first day, the professor started with a Pinchit, a Larnikin, and a Mootix. The next day, there were three Pinchits, two Larnikins, and still one very lonely Mootix. He was off to a good start, though, or so he thought.

The following day, the professor noticed he'd only gained one Mootix. Not one to be dismayed, he set some nesters to work and the fourth day saw an increase of four Pinchits! Four!

Another lull came the next day, when only one Larnikin had been added, but things got better the day after that when he found three more Mootixes, another Larnikin, and one more Pinchit.

The Gadgadsbogen celebration is known throughout Mystery Island and beyond. Neopets from around globe gather to buy the last of the older fruits and to marvel at the new ones.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

The island's regular inhabitants don't mind the touists; visitors to the island usually bring plenty of Neopoints. One such tourist, Salinder, had ben saving for this day for an entire year and couldn't wait to see what this year's Gadgadsbogen had to offer.

His first stop was at a small shop near the harbour. It was full to the brim with Slugroots and Uchini, but nothing really caught the buzz's eye.

Salider's second stop was at the Tropical Food shop. They had a larger variety, including Grunions and Banngos. They even had Honeylumes! But still, he couldn't find that one fruit that looked too delicious to resist.

Finally, after many more stops and a long day of celebrating, he came upon a very smal stand tucked away behind the Rock Pool. When he approached, his face lit up! This was it. This was the fruit he'd been serching for all along.

What fruit did Salinder find?
Enter just the fruit name with no punctuation. You will be disqualified if you enter anything else!

I noticed there's spelling mistakes in the LC and I'm guessing that has something to do with the answer.

Adam
03-28-2012, 06:24 PM
I think I've got it. The answer is: Arnapple

Explanation: If you take a letter from each mis-spelled word, you get: RENALPAP

Banngos - Missing an A
Honeylumes - Missing an P
serching - Missing an A
touists - Missing an R
smal - Missing an L
ben - Missing an E
Uchini - Missing an P
Salider - Missing an N

If you unscramble RENALPAP, you will get Arnapple.

THIS MIGHT NOT BE TRUE! THE WORD "THE" IS MISSING FROM "AROUND GLOBE" BUT THIS MIGHT ACTUALLY BE A TYPO

That's all I can think of. Hope it's right.

Answer this week is CHEOPS

Based on the puzzle:

My first is in Polarchuck, but never in Snarhook;

My second is in Woolypapith, but never in Slymook;

My third is in Gikerot, but never in Crocalu;

My fourth is in Hegelob, but never in Puppyblew;

My fifth is in Flowper, but never in Wadjet;

My sixth is in Alabriss, but never in Piraket;

My whole lives in the sand in a sunny land.

Possible letters:
1: PLCU
2: WPAITH
3: GIKET
4: HGO
5: FLOPR
6: LBS

Also works with the clue because the bulb of a cheops plant probably lives in the sand:

The Bank Manager doesn't just take care of your Neopoints; he has his own, too. He doesn't work for free. Geesh.

After winning 20,000 NP on the Wheel of Excitement one day, he decided to go on a little shopping spree.

First, he visited Mystery Island, where he spent 15% of his winnings on delicious tropical food. After that, he takes a chance on the Tombola and wins, which adds 15% of his NP to his total. Then he stops at the trading post strikes a deal for some Jelly Sponge Cake at 8% of his NP.

And, being the smart bank manager that he is, he finally puts his Neopoints into a new bank account so he can save up and earn some interest.

After 10 days of collecting interest every day, at the maximum account level he can achieve each day, how many Neopoints will the bank manager have? Remember, bank interest is rounded up!

Enter just the number with proper number formatting. (So if you think the answer is one thousand one hundred and eleven Neopoints, enter 1,111.)[COLOR="Silver"]

So.. correct me if I'm wrong.

20,000 NPs - 15% = 17,000 NPs
17,000 NPs + 15% = 19550 NPs
19,550 NPs - 8% = 17,986 NPs

I didn't understand very well the last part so I just calculated it with the max account level (ultimate riches!)

which would give him 7 NPs per day x 10 days = 70 NPs

17,986 NPs + 70 NPs = 18,056 NPs

The answer is 18,056

Charles the Ogrin was having a quiet time with his friends Milly the Bruce, Penelope the Grarrl, and Theodore the Mynci. They were waiting for two more friends, Esmerelda the Wocky and Gerald the Lenny. The table was set and the tea was about to be poured. Suddenly, Charles and his guests heard a commotion outside and they all went to look. There were half a dozen young Neopians tearing about Charles' lawn!

"My prize geraniums," shouted Charles. He was enraged by the sight of his multi-hued beauties being crushed under the clumsy feet of those disrespectful rascals.

Charles knew it could be hours before the DoN would arrive to help him, so he formulated a plan. After Charles huddled together with his guests, they quietly deliberated on what could be done to remove the six youngsters from Charles' property. After a thorough discussion, they put their plan into action. Each grabbed a cane, stick, spoon, or any other implement that would be easy to shake in disapproval, and made their way outside.

Assuming that Charles' two remaining guests had arrived by then: How many Elderly Ogrins would it take to get those pesky Neopets off of Charles' lawn?

~~~Since there's only one Ogrin there, would the answer be one???
This is Plumpy. Plumpy enjoys napping, purring, and philosophy. Plumpy is as old as he is white. One time, Plumpy rolled over onto his back, but that was just the once. The last time Plumpy was professionally weighed at a PPL centre, the scale was off by 12 pounds but he hadn't actually lost any weight. Sometimes he flaps his wings, but nothing happens. If he were a perfect sphere, he'd have a radius of 10. 10 what, we don't know. If you took 20 and then added half his weight, that's how much he actually weighs. It's hard to give Plumpy a bath because he's never dirty. Sometimes Plumpy turns to snow for no reason. If you give him some clay, Plumpy would stare at it. Plumpy's favourite food is bacon.
I love Plumpy.
What did the scale read at Plumpy's last PPL visit? Enter an integer.
The Continuing Conundrums of Plumpy, the Angelpuss
When Plumpy isn't napping, purring, or philosophising, he's eating. Plumpy eats twice a day, except on Mondays when he eats three times because Mondays are tough for everyone. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he eats 0.8 times his weight per meal and gets taken to the park to sit on the grass for three hours before being wheeled back home in a little red wagon. Fridays are for grooming, when he only eats 0.3 times his weight per meal because he'd rather be pampered. He prefers the Air Faerie Hair Brush for his fur and, believe it or not, Hubrid Brand Moustache Wax works best to make the halo shiny. On the weekends, when the bacon is most plentiful, he eats 1.6 times his weight total each day. If it's a Wednesday or a Monday, he will eat exactly his weight in juppies. No more, no less. Do not question Plumpy. Of course, if it's a Species Day, he also eats another 0.15 times his weight in cake as long as the cake has polka dotted frosting and bacon filling, which it always does.
How much did Plumpy eat during the Month of Eating, Y14? Round to the whole pound and enter just the number, with no punctuation or number formatting.
"I cannot sleep! Two o' them sits on me roof, singin' all night. One o' them can peek but th' other canna, unless ye give th' lad a letter. Both can spell pirate better than ye or I!"
If M=3, Y=9, S=6..so on.
Then BAC = 0, AAB = 1, CCA = 2 and so on...
The first word gives me SME[A]...I don't think I'm going about this the right way.
The morse code part also gave me nothing useful. Anyone have any ideas?
THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - Ends: probably on Wednesday afternoon
Professor Clodbottle discovered a new breed of pest that seemed to divide itself into two in various lengths of time depending on its environment. He would say this discovery came after days of rigorous experimentation, but knowing him, it was probably on accident. Either way, this was quite astonishing! He'd never seen anything like it.
To experiment further and gather more data on the species, the professor created three separate Habitariums with various resources and space, but each starting with a single specimen at 10:00 NST.
Experimental Habitarium One resulted in the P3 dividing every 30 seconds. At exactly 11:03:30 NST (one hour, three minutes, and thirty seconds later) the Habitarium was half full.
Experimental Habitarium Two resulted in the P3 dividing every 45 seconds. At 11:49:15 NST (one hour, 49 minutes, and fifteen seconds later) the Habitiarium was half full.
Experimental Habitarium Three resulted in the P3 dividing every 60 seconds. At 12:13:00 NST (two hours, thirteen minutes later) the Habitarium was half full.
At what time would Experimental Habitarium Three be completely full?
Its an easy one this week.
2hr 14min later
you answer the time though I think, so 12:14:00 NST
Well TNT really fucked up last LC with the correct answer being 12:14:00 but only awarding people that put 12:14. So answers of 12:14:00 and 12:14:00 NST were wrong. Good thing they had NST throughout the entire question only to fuck up the answer without it. /end rant
The new one probably involves pouring water into the hole to raise the ball and then using the twine connected to the umbrella to scoop up the ball?
Or I could be WAY off track.
TheButt
10-25-2012, 11:31 AM
I just put "butter knife" as my answer since screw TNT thats why lol. Also the real way I was going to put was >50 characters so I said f it and just put 1 item.
Richy
10-25-2012, 12:10 PM
I was also thinking of raising the ball by putting water in, then using the half umbrella as a laddle. But might it be necessary to have it disintegrate? It doesn't seem helpful, but why not just give us a spoon if it would act as a spoon?
I then stopped trying to solve it because it will probably be hard for TNT to award credit due to small things like punctuation
Farmer McGee was dismayed one morning when he woke up to find all of his crops had been destroyed by a herd of wild Gangees. Since Farmer McGee needed breakfast, he decided to make a trip to Meridell Market to buy his favourite breakfast food, aubergine.
At Meridell Market, Farmer McGee found three stalls, all in a row, with each Neopet claiming that their aubergines were the best in Meridell.
Farmer McGee couldn't afford to purchase an aubergine from each farmer, and he didn't want to leave his choice up to chance, either. Farmer McGee had heard rumors that two of these three farmers were liars. After some interrogation, Farmer McGee was able to get these three claims from the Neopets:
Farmer Larry claims that Farmer Russell is a liar.
Farmer John claims that Farmer Larry is a liar.
Farmer Russell claims that both Farmer John and Farmer Larry are liars.
Who is telling the truth? Please provide only the name of the Neopet.
Pretty sure this is going to end up being another one of those trick questions.. I usually fail at Lenny Conundrum so I just guessed Farmer McGee!
I assume that all the farmers making claims are liars and the only the one that is telling the truth would have to be Farmer McGee..
"like he even had any crops uheahaha a herd of wild Gangees? sure Bro."
This conundrum also mentions Aubergines which is a colour available to Chia.. so maybe that's the answer, I really have no idea.
Just wondering how you came up with Larry as an answer IndigoSunset
How I got there is difficult to explain ha. Easiest to explain is another way, try each one in turn and see if it works.
a) Farmer Larry claims that Farmer Russell is a liar.
b) Farmer John claims that Farmer Larry is a liar.
c) Farmer Russell claims that both Farmer John and Farmer Larry are liars.
So if we 1st assume John is telling the truth then Russell and Larry must be lying. However, statement a) says that Larry calls Russell a liar. Either Larry is telling the truth or Russell is. So this doesn't work.
Next assume Russell is telling the truth so John and Larry are lying. Statement a) is fine, that's a lie but it's from Larry who is a liar. However, statement b) says that John calls Larry a liar. Again, either Larry is telling the truth or John is. So this doesn't work.
Finally, the proof, assume Larry is telling the truth so Russell and John are lying. Statement b) is fine, it's a lie from John who is a liar. Statement a) is fine, Larry is our truthteller. And statement c) is from Russell a liar and he lies by saying that both John and Larry are liars.
So Larry is telling the truth :)
Let's start a discussion on the new LC...
I think it should be something more nonsensical than an actual item.
There's not really much to discuss, it said:
"Wallace spent the next hour running around, unable to sit still. He continued on into the night without sleeping or eating. Poor Wallace!
What did Wallace catch?"
And the description of Jitters is:
"If you notice that your pet runs around constantly and just can't seem to sit still to sleep, eat or do anything it might have this disease."
Pretty clear cut.
TheButt
01-17-2013, 03:12 PM
As said above, it is a disease that is pretty straight forward in the description. There is usually a discussion on this thread when there is a tough LC but since this one wasn't too hard, there was no need to discuss the answer. Also it doesn't hurt to do some research of the answer if you are hesitant that it might not be right.
