View Full Version : A Demerit Point system

Hey all, just wanna add my 2 cents worth to contribute to this forum.

I've been on this forum for considerably long, 8 months and counting. I've seen people come and go, some willingly, others not so willingly, getting banned. Of course, scammers and people who CB should be booted out ASAP so as to reduce the harm caused to the community, but what about other lighter wrongdoings? They should be given a chance to repent.

As such I suggest a 12-point demerit points system, 0 being completely clean and 12 being booted. 4 and 8 could be 1 week temp ban and 1 month temp ban respectively. The demerit point system will be cumulative.

Possible demerit point allocation:

- Scamming ON clraik/Chargebacks: 12 points
- Ratting out others' neopets accounts: 12 points
- Allowing a Previously Banned Member to access his/her account: 4-8 points
- Swearing at a person, insulting a person (not in a fun way): 4 points (If remorseful, 12 if unrepentant)
- Misleading advertising of neo goods (Saying a pet robbed from active account sat for 3 days is secured): 4 points (If willing to make ammendments/refunds, 12 if not)
- Creating more than 3 sales threads: 1 point

Of course, I'll leave it to mods to decide how to attribute the demerit points, and what penalties deserve how many.

I've been lurking around and saw that some people, in the heat of the argument, insulted others and said stuff that they didn't mean to say, and deeply regretted their wrongdoings the next day, but they're banned already. Of course, what's posted is posted already, what pain has caused has caused. But surely they don't deserve the same treatment as Maxcogo?

To err is human, to forgive is divine. Hopefully a demerit point system can give people a second chance for lighter offences.

That's what the infraction system is for :P

I thought making it public is good, like right now no one knows what gets you an infraction and what gets a perm ban...

I like this idea :)

Would it ever reset back to 0? monthly? or would it stay at whatever number you have accumulated forever?

Posting a picture of the Lord flipping off the mods and telling them to go F*ck themselves is pretty much an insta-ban...
Just for future reference. In case you were wondering.

It does reset ^.^ Most infractions have an expiration date.

I don't see why that would be insta-ban, I am sure they would have a good laugh about it, I know I would xD

Sounds good, I don't see why we can't implement this :D

It's been in place :P you just haven't seen much if it (which is a good thing, it means you don't get in trouble).

As of now, 100 infraction points gets you automatically banned. Although, up to now, nobody has come close without getting banned for something else first. So this could change. We do hand out infractions every now and again.

Most bans last for just a set period of time rather than being perma don't they? I think the current infraction system works just fine. Everyone knows(or should know) what is and isn't acceptable. If they transgress the rules then they might be banned for a period of time so they can understand what they did wrong and be punished for it but I don't think we need a public points system particularly, I'd rather the Mods have discretion without the need for full forum scrutiny of (potentially) every punishment issued.

Point now is that when we see someone with the 'banned' userbar, we're not sure if he's perm banned or temp banned, and people here might have unfinished business with them, and once they're banned they have no reason to continue talking to you via skype/msn etc...

You can see who is temp banned and permanently banned on the Banned page, if you are official clraik + I believe.

Also, not sure if anyone answered your question before but some cases of an infraction the points will expire.

So this thread was basically a recall of our infraction system. :P

I see, thanks for clarifying, didn't actually know how the infraction system work, I thought it was either a temp ban or a straight perm ban...

Just make sure you follow the rules!
If somebody does something bad around the forums such as spamming or harassing members, staff will take care of it and there is usually no need to tell everybody everything that happens. No sense it putting a scarlett letter, so to speak, on them so that everybody knows what they did wrong.

If you do something that breaks the big no-no rules, that's an insta ban. Any kind of scamming is usually a ban after a scamming investigation is done.
But if it's just blatantly obvious they scammed, then it can be an insta ban sometimes.

I think a "demerit point system" would just be a way for people to see just how far they can push the system before they are banned.
It would probably be best to just make sure you follow the rules, which are pretty simple. Usually just some common courtesy and giving other members the respect you would like in return is enough to make sure you never get banned/infracted.
