I have never ran a mile in under 8 minutes before today, but I did it! I know there are plenty of people who can run way faster than that, and that the best of the best can even break 4 minutes (jesus fucking christ), but as someone who used to not even be able to run a full mile straight, I am quite proud of myself. :$

Are there any other runners on this forum? If so, what's your fastest? :)

OMG Congrats! I used to run. I was in cross country in high school. My fastest mile was 7:20
2 was 17:06
3 was 26:16

and 4 and 5 never got under 10 minutes a mile. :(

I'm so out of shape now. But I'm quite proud of my times.

Title response:
OMG! You broke 8 minutes? Can you fix them? Maybe you'll need the doctor.

Real Response
I used to run/jog/walk to school every day, it was about 16km and took about an hour 10.
How far is a mile? I thought those were extinct long long ago?

In the states, we use the mile.

a 5k is roughly 3 miles. It's just under. I think a 16k is 10 miles.

Whooo congrats! I always love to see progress, that's the best motivator. I miss running D:

Used to be able to run 10 kms (6.2 miles) in just under 40 mins. No way I can do that anymore, I've been slacking so much this year :(

Congratulations... Keep it up! I was that one kid in middle school that could run a 7 minute mile, clocking in at 6:52. Sadly, those times are behind me. :P

babytroop123456:

I did swim team in high school, and I did water polo too. I don't miss swim much but I do miss polo. :(

Sari: I never did cross country, I was always a swimmer! I just started running more seriously last month so for all you people making fun of my time, I don't really care LOL. I'm training for distance races anyway, not sprinting. :dil:

Freja: Yesssss! That was my point exactly lol. I'm pleased with my progress. c: It is definitely a big motivator for me.

tchaikovsky: I was never that kid LOL. But maybe after some more training I'll get there!

I absolutely love swimming too. I've worked as a lifeguard for the past 3 years. :)
But seriously, 8 minutes isn't bad. I mean.... Compared to some people obviously it might look terrible (if you can run a mile in under 6 minutes don't even talk to me lol) but it's not that bad. It was always amazing to set a new personal record. Even if I was still slower than just about every other runner on the team.
And I can't sprint. Worth anything. So yeah. lol

Sari: Yeah well my main goal has just been increasing my endurance, my runs are usually 3-4 miles long now and I recently was able to keep going for four miles straight. I didn't have time for a long run yesterday so I decided to just try to break 8 mins and I got a 7:56. :) Doesn't mean I'm stopping there though!

I keep telling myself I'm going to start running again. But I keep having excuses as to why I can't do it today. I should really go out and run a mile today at least. It'd probably take me like 12 minutes (maybe more... I'm not sure I could run a whole mile right now) but at least I'd feel accomplished for getting it done.

Excuses don't help anybody! You've just got to get out there and MOVE. Also, if you aren't able to run now maybe you should just work on increasing your endurance in other ways? I have a lot of short circuit training routines I could post or send to you. You just repeat them through as many times as you'd like. :$

Ooh that'd be awesome!

Yeah I fight with depression, so that drains my energy. And it's also just like omg no I don't feel like dealing with this right now :(

Hale

Exercise has actually been proven to combat depression! :$

As for some workouts, maybe I'll just post a thread if anybody is interested? :( We could have a daily challenge or something, where I post the challenge of the day and everybody (who's interested) tries to complete it? Doing little things like that are what help keep me motivated! :$

Yeah I definitely feel better when I am more active. I was sick for like 3 months though, and wasn't allowed to do much exercising. That could have led to some icky complications. So now I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things.

That'd be cool though. I had this walking/running thread on a different forum, but that kind of died out because I got so busy and wasn't able to get on to update it. So yeah :/

Start is again on here! :)
What was the premise of the thread? Just goals for everyday/week/month? My goal for this month is to run 30 miles. I'm already almost there. :)

Sari

Ooh awesome!

ANd lol no, it was just like a forum wide walk/run to however many miles.
Each person adds the number of miles they've run that day and when we get to the goal miles, everyone feels awesome.

I actually really like that idea! I'd like it if you made a thread like that. c: Start us off by walking a mile today!

Sari
12-20-2012, 04:22 PM
I dunno how much to go to. And I'm not sure I manage to stay active enough to keep up with it.

Hale
12-20-2012, 04:26 PM
Should I make the thread then? I don't want to steal your idea, I can give you credit for it! But I'm very diligent about my workouts so I'd be able to keep up with it. :)

Sari

Go right on ahead! I don't mind. I'll definitely post when I am around. But I just don't want to host it and leave midway

Hale

That's fair enough! I'll make the thread on a day when I actually get out. :)

I slacked off and hadn't gone for a run again until yesterday, but I shaved 14 seconds off my time! 7:42 now. :)

Congrats! Keep it up and soon you'll be breaking that record. In soccer we were required to run our miles under 7 minutes but we were not timed individually so I honestly don't know.
