How safe are auto adopters? Safe enough to use on a side account I usually log into unproxied? Is a proxy necessary at all?

Proxy is used to hide the cheating from your main account most of the time, like in your case.

The freeze rate for a pound sniper is pretty much 0% unless you do something stupid.

or something that will risk your account like sniping someone's active pet from their account O_O

Yeah unless you catch a pound transfer (which isn't against neopets rules) and the previous owner or the person who was supposed to receive it start reporting then yeah it is pretty much 0%

I've seen a few people auto-adopting pets before, never seen them getting iced though;;
