Season 6-10 of the Simpsons really is top notch, Family became a lot funnier in season 3 onwards.
The newer simpsons are not bad but very hit and miss. They really are different types of comedy but I still prefer to quote the older Simpsons episodes.

I Def love the "Blunt" side of Family Guy .. And also a lot of its comedic effect is aimed more towards and older crowed. You take a younger kid and watch his reaction to a cut scene and you have a 50/50 chance of him/her knowing what its about, whereas I find 100% of the show to be comedic gold. The simpsons was always a funny innocent humor and in some cases even taught some "life lessons" to young kids but in my age I have def switched from The Simpsons to Family Guy. But I agree with with the fact that these 2 shows are 2 totally dif styles of comedy and aimed at two dif audiences. Even though the Simpsons have been known to throw in a few Risque scenes in their episodes these days.
