Pokemon Blue, Red and Yellow to be 3DS digital downloads

Nintendo has announced that Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Red, and Pokemon Yellow are headed to the 3DS eShop as digital downloads.

All three games will be presented exactly as they originally were with one notable exception: trading via the Game Boy Link Cable has been replaced by wireless trading.

All three games will hit the eShop on February 27, 2016 -- 20 years to the day from Red and Blue�s original Japanese release in 1996.

Over the years I've learned how to repair both consoles and cartridges in order to preserve the classic gameplay of the older Nintendo games. I'm wicked excited about this news! Anyone else?

That's sweet! I kind of wish they would reinterpret the newer Pokemon in the style of the earlier games because I'm all about nostalgia.
I haven't played Pokemon since diamond version, is it worth getting a 3ds to play the newer ones (as well as other games on the platform)?

Yeah, imo the 3DS is great(Or the cheaper 2DS if you don't care about the 3D option). It's gotten some great titles now in terms of large names like Super Smash Bros 3DS, and the new Hyrule Warriors 3DS, as well as indie games like Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

I'm hoping the wifi integration allows for battling as well as trading tbh, that would be a little disappointing not to have.
