"Neopets is NOT CLOSING in any way. "

    just updated their facebook page.

To our Neopets Members and Community:
Unfortunately, a recent restructuring of our resources means a number of respected employees working on Neopets are no longer with the company. JumpStart appreciates each and every one of our employees, and it was a sad day to have to say goodbye to our friends. While its disheartening to see team members leaving the company, we are incredibly thankful for everything they have done to create Neopets.com and the passionate community that surrounds the site.
Moving forward, we want to make it absolutely and unequivocally clear that we are committed to Neopets! Neopets is NOT CLOSING in any way. To the contrary, we plan to produce new content, update the site, and dedicate valuable resources towards improving site functionality, including lag and site stability. In fact, the recent launch of Neopets Ghoul Catchers on the iTunes and Facebook platforms confirms our dedication to launching new and exciting content for existing and new Neopets users.
As we move forward and establish new goals for Neopets, we want the community to know that we are fully committed to the success of Neopets. We will work to support, improve and expand Neopets with our best resources and most creative minds. We thank you for your unwavering support of Neopets and we believe you will be as excited about the future as we are.
We wish all of the amazing former Neopets team members the very best life has to offer and we are grateful for their time at Jumpstart.
    - David Lord, CEO of JumpStart

Even though I'm glad they finally listened to some of us by letting go of the staff who were not essential for fixing and maintaining the site (I recall a lot of people, myself included, complained about them creating all that new content when it was much more important that they fix everything that's wrong with the site first), on a more sympathetic note I'm a little disappointed that they let some of the artists go. The new NC items have been nonstop gorgeous, I hope whoever replaces them in the future does as great of a job. Or maybe they'll rehire some of the old staff once the programmers start getting the site all fixed up!

i kinda doubt this tbh, they got rid of them for a reason.

i guess it's good that neo isn't done for good yet.

Honestly, their ultimate reasons for letting the staff go are theirs, but look at it this way. The site has had some major issues for a while, and they were not getting fixed. Things were being taken down, broken, etc. The job of the staff is to fix the site and keep it in optimal capacity for entertaining their customers. The staff were not doing that, the site was still broken. It's possible the staff being let go was a good thing. Not for the staff, obviously, and I'm disheartened they lost their jobs. But the fact was, the site was not working properly, which meant, those people were not aiding the recovery of the site. At that point, it made them obsolete, they could not aid in the future of Neopets, only hinder it and possibly withhold a job of someone who could aid it if Jumpstart hires new employees. So yeah, I continue my streak of being a bitch about things, but maybe now they'll actually put the resources in the right place of fixing stuff.

As long as they're selling NC, they'll keep the site open, and judging by the NC Chat, that's gonna be a long time.

See? Everything is fine. Whoever got this mass hysteria started in the first place is just as incompetent as the disposed neo staff.

I don't think any of what you said is bitchy.
Really, it sucks to see some of them go because they've been with Neo for so long, but that's the point - the only real reason anyone, even us as Neopets users, are attached to them is because they've been with Neo for so long.
Sure, some of them made an effort to connect with the userbase, but at the end of the day, were they really contributing to the overall success and improvement of the site?
All things considered, JumpStart has really had Neopets for a short period of time, but the good thing about that is that they can be objective - if they come in and notice that people aren't doing what they're being paid to do, they don't have any sense of nostalgia invested in those employees - to a new company, they're just employees that aren't necessary, aren't doing what they're supposed to do, or aren't contributing to the improvement of the site.
Sure, to us, they're valuable, but I see it as more of a nostalgia thing and less of a "BUT THEY'VE DONE SO MUCH GREAT WORK FOR NEOPETS" thing... which could be why JS decided to let them go.

I agree. I'm sure JS could have easily found people to do the work for less than what the original staff was making.
