Maybe I'm just thinking this because I watched it as a very young child, but I always thought it was more of a never-could-get-away-with-this-now/has-jokes-for-the-parents children's cartoon.

Ohh I remember seeing them at MTV channel but was very young so my memories are not so clear.

But I do remember the cat being sweet and the dog being angrier haha. Tbh I was lost about the reference (still am) so if someone can point me out?

My thoughts exactly when I saw it!!

Also about Ren and Stimpy, I mostly remember how my mom hated it and never let me watch it. But not because of the language or something, she was just grossed by the bizarre animation choices in some parts lol.

Alllll my friends watched Ren and Stimpy but it used to make me cry. I was a delicate child and they scared me!

Yeah I thought the same thing with the words turning all positive/happy! Maybe it's meant to change negative words to happy, but not sure what it's referencing. I like the idea of Ren and Stimpy. I can't believe my mum allowed me to watch it on TV when it was still airing *same goes for Rocko's Modern Life and Courage the Cowardly Dog* xD

There WAS an adult ren and stimpy cartoon but it was so depraved and just genuinely uncomfortably awful and unfunny that it was cancelled during it's run.

That said I love the originals I wonder how we do this.
