What would you do in this Bilge Dice Game?

Do you keep the (5) before rolling?

Keep in mind that a tie is a loss.

On a side note, how hard would it be to program something that can solve this kind of problem?

    Instinctively, I'd keep it too.
But if you roll you get a 2/3 (odds of 5 or 6 for each die x2) chance of having at least one 5 OR better. And you can roll a second time on one die if need be.

Does anyone know how I can go about solving this mathematically?

    EDIT

It's not an important game or anything, but if I could help make a better autoplayer I would be happy. This kind of statistics and odds interests me...

    I couldn't find that program.

I'm mainly just curious and would like to see what kind of math is involved.

Oh yeah I never released it. This was back on my old forum when I made it as well...

Planning on implementing it into my Stealth CORE program to play on your account for you someday.

And I made it decide as if it were a human. I think what you mainly are wanting to know is how the program would react for your situation? My program would keep the 5, roll the 1 (regardless of what your opponent has).

To be honest, it's a big nono to ignore the other players because while running the bot and recording what every other player ended up getting, I could have won 30% more games I believe. (Which is why I never released)

    Pfft this math is nothing!

Next door to where i live now used to be this gay pc guy. I was freinds with him (we had common intrest if u know what I mean lol). Anyway , he showed me this game he coded all by himself from scatch without a internet connection. It was a clone of civilization his favourate game. When he completed Civ he watched the credits screen and was shocked to see only a single person devloped it. So he started to work on something himself.

Me and him was planning to make a absolutly massive online game we had a devlopment plan , contracts in place network code (my side) and 3d engine (his side) all done. Unfortunaly he passed away last year however after choking on his own vomit after a heavy night on the town.... I still do have all his old programming books and source codes on memory stick as a kind of tribute to him I have never met someone who was so advanced in math as he was and I suspect he was autistic (he was very awkward).

If you wanna see great math look at the trigonomotry involved in colission detections , or pythagoras theorem used to calculate the distance between 2 moving objects never fails to impress me..

Obviously you would keep the five if you were just going for a max score, the whole problem is the fact that there are three bots to deal with.
